Anywhere but here it seems. Just get your deal done already mate jesus, over reading about it.

The news here is nothing to do with Leo and everything to do with our club showing all the signs of a basketcase again. A middling coach entrenched with endless job security, comfy players that only put in occasionally, high performing players seeking opportunities elsewhere unrelated to money (and this is a very common trend at this point under O'Brien).

The Knights expressed a willingness to increase their offer to Thompson to keep him at the club, but were told money was not his primary motivation.

Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions said Thompson had raised concerns with Newcastle officials about his development at the Knights and the club’s roster management.

Fantastic.

Sorry Leo while we busily tie down our best up and coming talent to long term deals. That is poor signs of development and roster management right there. On your way. Never mind the fact he was supposed to be a future pack leader. Do you think JFH and JWH at similar ages thought for a second they were not alpha material?

Not going to miss the guy at all. Our shitty system somehow developed him from Jersey Flegg to the most overhyped prop in the NRL.

But what I really want to know is, how are Canberra fans handling the news? :D

Coming off a successful first season under new coach Cameron Ciraldo, the Bulldogs have made a major move on the market to signal their premiership intentions, securing the signature of prop Leo Thompson.

Seriously, who writes or proof reads fox sports articles these days? I must have imagined their disastrous 2023 season.

I was also thinking this. I’m obviously not a fan of AOB but we’ve turned him into an international and one of the most targeted players in the comp. I very much doubt there’s any truth to the comment that he’s concerned about his development at the Knights. Sounds like a cop out. Also who the hell has Ciraldo developed at the Dogs? They just poach Penrith players.

It’s not surprising him apparently saying he’s not happy with the roster because it’s been reported for a while now that Leo wasn’t happy about POS tapping blokes on the shoulder, especially DSaf. Would people honestly want the club to keep doing what we’ve been doing previously with the over inflated contracts for average players just to keep Leo?

I don’t know Leo… not signing an inconsistent front rower to a big fat contract is pretty sound roster management.

Let him go. We’ll see in time who ends up on the right end of this deal.

I am suss on Leo and all these dealings TBH. He has tried to call our bluff, failed and has seemingly agreed to Canberra and now backed out. Has links to the Dogs who insiders said a few weeks back have moved on. Perhaps Sully is a lot smarter than these media idiots realise.

Assuming Leo is gone to Canterbury for 2026 then for season 2025 we should be wishing the Knights make top 8 and Dogs finish out of the 8 and Leo is playing Cup at season end

Sucks to be a Knights fan a lot of the time. I get the impression he doesn't like AOB? Anyways, it's always hard for a player to knock back Gus.

Was a fan and sad to see him leaves but don't we have literally a clone of him? Hope he turns out a good one as well!

Just shows that Leo is one dumb merkin. Leaving for less money to live in a more expensive city. What a complete f**kstick. No loss IMO, being the Knight's best forward last year was no real achievement.

Hmmm I don’t really buy the idea that we’re a basket case club, and the idea that Leo didn’t think he could develop as a player at the Knights doesn’t really add up either given he just became a NZ rep and one of the most in-demand players on the transfer market (whether that tag is justified or not) whilst playing at the Knights…

To me, Leo will be a good NRL level prop (maybe one of the better ones) but I don’t think that in 10 years we’ll all sit here and say that he’s had a career like JFH or JWH.

I will say though reading through the Raiders Greenhouse forum is amusing. Most of the same posters that were previously saying he was a great deal/signing now saying he’s not that good/not worth what they offered. Don’t disagree with them but it’s funny none the less lol.
