They also don't rate AOB at all. Mention all the weird things in his game play like not challenging kicks and playing KPP on the left and not letting him offload.

I like listening to Kemp as he’s pretty measured. Points out issues but also balances it positives where it’s deserved. That “guru” bloke grates though. He’s very one tracked and says nothing but negative about 90% of the clubs and then claims he saw it coming when something obvious happens. A bit like Gus but without the actual runs on the board of doing something.

It’s hard with the halves issue. It’s an obvious thing the critics are going to bring up. AOB left himself open to a lot of criticism with the constant changes there. It’s obviously difficult though as although we have a lot of options they’re all fringe players that haven’t been able to lock down long-term starting roles at their previous clubs (or a complete unknown in Pryce - and even he was struggling to make FG in the ESL). I can guarantee there wouldn’t have been as many changes if we had at least 1 half that had been a consistent starting half before. In those cases even if they’re not playing well you back them to get through bad form because you know they can…in the case of our options there’s literally no history to suggest they’d improve if you persist with them so I do understand trying different options.

If AOB does go with Sharpe then good on him tbh, it’s out of the box. It might not work but at least we’re trying something different even if it’s already being criticised by everyone. That saying though, if he picks him to start the season, he simply HAS to stick with him and a consistent partner for the whole season. If he doesn’t he might as well go and jump in the Centrelink line now.

I actually find them pretty gutless in this regard. They spend a significant amount of time essentially saying that they think the coach is being detrimental to his players and how the Knights only win in spite of him, but won’t ever say his name. More than entitled to the option but if you’re going to say things like that and so regularly at least have the balls to be direct in your criticism and own it.

Bloke in a bar would be fine if they didn’t take themselves so seriously. They honestly think they know more about the game than anyone when there knowledge for the most part is pretty average.

They just spout cliches and regurgitate others opinions and Guru is the worst. Anyone who’s ever been associated with the Roosters is amazing. You’d think they’d won the last 4 comps listening to him.

Toohey's News

- Knights very keen on Dylan Brown, who has already come to Newcastle with his agent for an initial meeting. Toohey says the money won’t be what costs the Knights if he decides not to join but that privately the Knights remain sceptical of his interest.

- Knights offer to Leo Thompson was in the same ballpark as what the Bulldogs and Raiders offered but there was resentment towards the Knights from Leo’s camp for “lowballing” earlier in the negotiations. Also believed there had been an issue since Thompson signed an upgrade in 2022 that was lower than what had allegedly been promised.

- Seb Sua is being chased by the Roosters and Dolphins.

- Fletcher Sharpe has apparently been a “revelation” at five-eighth during preseason .

- Adam Elliott racing the clock to be ready for round 1 after an injury-disrupted preseason.

privately the Knights are sceptical but we will publish it in the public domain. Great work WESTS as always. Clown show. Whoever is Barry’s information source probably needs to be removed. Cos I am sure Orr and Brown would be stoked to read this! Put a line through it. And f### the Roosters.

The headline to Tooheys News is actually hilarious.

Toohey's News: Has Leo's exit opened door for Dylan?

Wow... imagine that? Not overpaying on a replaceable middle forward has opened up opportunities to spend big on a critical spine position...

Incredible insight. Whodathunkit. I love this bit too...

There is now a realisation among club powerbrokers that another marquee signing, preferably in the halves, is essential to take some of the heat off Kalyn Ponga if the team is to genuinely compete for a title.

We're just now having this realisation? Is it a requirement to have an IQ below 80 to work for the club? Has the plan really just been "pass it to Kalyn" all the way up to board level? Explains our tactics on the field I suppose. Checks out.

Sharpe will only be a revelation at 5/8 if AOB lets him play his natural game and play heads up football. Will be hopeless if his game plan is still to bomb it to the corner every set.

Side note about the BiaB podcast. Does anyone know what the Guru does as part of his podcast commitments outside of being on the show? He often talks about being at training watching various players or speaking to players at clubs etc. Is he a registered journo or has a lot of connections with player managers or club management or something?

I do like listening to their show btw, but yeah their takes on the Knights are pretty draining at times. They seem to ignore that we’ve played finals 4 out of the last 5 years and act like we’re total garbage. Also seem to put it on AOB all the time, and whilst some of it is warranted, there’s also the fact that the halves last year just didn’t step up. Not one of them actually demanded the jersey with their on field play. So what was AOB to do? Just keep picking the same guys who were poor each week?

Bloke In A Bar pod had a great season preview today. The standout comment re us was from Kemp who implied Dom left cos he got sick of waiting for the offer. It was not simply a case of he wanted to leave outright. It was raised regarding the reasons behind Leo leaving.
They said Will Pryce should be given a crack at 6 and his stats in Cup were solid. They say the chat around his defence was a little exaggerated. Ultimately If we get the halves right and KP stays fit they say we are a potential top four roster. Huge call.
The idea that Dom left for any other reason than the obvious is really just nonsense to try and talk down our club.

I call bullshit. He signed the upgrade, only now does it come out that it was lower. If he was unhappy with the amount, why sign? All damage control at how him and his inept management have handled the situation. Low balling early? WTF? You don't start negotiations with the highest offer! Sounds like we did the right thing and didn't play to a prima donna who has tickets on himself. To paraphrase some ill timed words from a Canberra official "Bulldogs have to pay for his contract for those years" and Leo is NO Ben Kennedy! Same as the BS from the BiaB wankers about Dom. Never heard that until now, TWO YEARS after he left and completely contradicts the reasons published at the time.

lol Dom refused to deal with the club until after the World Cup- they tried desperately to wrap him up beforehand.

Leo’s current contract value is a pie and a coke- can only imagine that they lowballed him and offered just a pie. Sounds like his manager needs the sack though- he’s pretty much cost Leo 2 years of a good contract. You feel like Newcastle would have happily upgraded him to something closer to his true value at the end of 2023 if push came to shove.

Haha just listened to the preview for the Knights from the brains trust at Bloke in a Bar. Jesus, made up shit about Thompson and Dom Young and constant negativity about Obi and our attack. Particularly when they waxed lyrical about how amazing Parra and Souths are. Both of whom have been total dogshit the last couple of years.

I didn’t think it was possible but I now rate them even less as Rugby League analysts. You’d get more facts from Blocker and Spudd Carroll.

I used to listen to the Fifth & Last NRL Podcast. Excellent show with a couple of really knowledgeable hosts called Brock and Lewis, but looks like they’ve finished up the show now because Brock is now one of the NRL assistant coaches at Canberra Raiders so it would be a conflict of interest for him to be on the podcast too. Really wish those guys were still producing content.
