Rumoured Targets 3

Develop halves yes, but more than half of our squad last week were juniors. We’re one of the higher developing clubs currently.
Yes we are seeing some juniors just starting to come through, ( wonderful news) but this should have been happening 5 to 6 years ago.

To put it in perspective Sharpe was 11 years old when Wests took over the Knights, and the cost of slack development? a 1.3 million contract over 10 years.

Playing pretty similar to he did last year but with the added bonus of seemingly having checked out of 2025 already.
Nah I would encourage you to watch a lot of his games last year again. He was trying a lot harder. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to estimate he was touching the ball 15-20 more times per game. Certainly running about twice as much and twice as hard. He was their best player last year but he copped the blame for them losing.

Which is ridiculous and unfair. The the Dogs game last weekend was the first time they’d conceded less than 20 points in a game since round 4, 2024. Name the half in the comp who can lead a side to a winning record in those circumstances.

The thing which bothers me is that Dylan’s form this year has me thinking that we maybe could have gotten him for less… I reckon he wants to go. I don’t think he’s just leaving due to an offer he can’t refuse. I think he’s had it with that club, the fans, he doesn’t like his new coach.

So basically POS’ bet on what the cap is going to do going forward has to pay off for this to have been a shrewd move financially.

Hypothetical: I know we signed Brown but if we had the chance to do it again and throw the same deal at Lachie Galvin, would you do it?

The club that stood by him during all his indiscretions, soon as he loss daddy Arthur and ryles arrived , he wants out…just saying

Apparently Jye Linnane signed with the Wahs

This might be why we were apparently chasing the backup half from the Dragons…not that we need either of them.

That’s one signing I don’t really get…unless we think Cogger and Gamble won’t be around and we need some depth…

KNIGHTS FACE FIGHT TO KEEP KAI

Newcastle are locked in a fight to keep Kai Pearce-Paul amid interest from at least two rivals in the English back rower.

Sport Confidential understands that the Canberra Raiders and Wests Tigers are both keeping an eye on Pearce-Paul as he comes off contract at the end of the year.

Newcastle haven’t given up hope of keeping the rangy English back rower, but they may have to act fast as the Raiders and Tigers circle the 24-year-old.

Pearce-Paul moved to the NRL at the start of last season with fellow Englishman Will Pryce, who recently returned to Super League.

It is understood Pearce-Paul has no plans to follow suit amid interest from rival clubs. The Raiders, in particular, already have English teammates Morgan Smithies and Matty Nicholson on their books.

Before I even read it I knew one of the clubs would be the Raiders lol. Their obsession with us is just bizarre at this point.

I like KPP but his current contract isn’t value for money. Would be nice if he stayed for less but it’s really rare that happens and we know the Raiders have lot of cash after missing Leo. I wouldn’t think Tigers would have much more than us.

What is the go with the Raiders? They're like our B-team at this point.

KPP is a tough one. Agree that he isn't giving great value for money, but you need to replace him too. He is a good defender. Not sure McEwen will be ready to take his spot by next season - although it would seem he's going to be the heir apparent. If we're going to let KPP go then McEwen will have to grow into the player he's tipped to, and we'll need a stopgap solution. With Friz in the squad, that stopgap may be a prop or a backrower to be honest.

We went into this year a bit light in the forwards realistically to prep for next year. I'm not sure we can march into next year even lighter than we are now.

After watching an interview with KPP in the off season I assumed an offer was made but he wanted to test the market.

The Brown signing has all but put a line through KPP, Hetherington and Elliot - their present contracts don't represent value.

KPP is not worth anymore than 500K, and if the other 2 were any good they'd already be signed somewhere. The good news is their value is dropping by the day so may be able to sign them for their true value (pie and a bag of chips)

I cannot see Sully losing sleep over this. Kai has been solid. His defence is very much top notch most weeks. But it may have come at the cost of his attack. Or at least that is how it appears.

The attraction to the raiders is the location, non big city, quieter life style so the Knights can be drawn to similar type club with and without some pluses and minuses.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work in reverse, have we ever signed a Canberra player to a reasonable contract.
Brailey to Canberra, Starling out, doesn’t make sense.

Barnett? Leo? Schiller?

I’d argue that other than Tapine they’re all better players than the ones we’ve lost to them (Schiller TBD), and all on pretty cheap contracts.

Pretty sure Ben Kennedy we got from Canberra too.

Forgot about him! Our best ever signing.

We don’t sign many from the Raiders but the few we have were all good signings (Schiller TBD obviously but so far he fits in really well).

On the other had the Raiders just sign our player on mass.
