that will be our 2026 halves and backline if everything goes as planned. That can win a competition. What we need is a quality 9 to get that speed and power rolling up field. Cos there will be no issue getting up the park with that speed and yardage.

They won’t be able to do anything unless we get some more forwards or some develop rapidly.

We don’t have an organiser either so we’re going to have to play pretty unstructured. I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing though. Literally every club is running the same set plays which are pretty predicable. It might serve us well to play more off the cuff with the squad we have.

I also think we need to try and keep Gags for 2026 as to me he’s the difference between Dom being a good or bad signing.

We won’t need gold star forwards in the engine room. Just honest yard makers with a touch of skill to keep the second phase going. And of course can hold the middle third of the field.

I agree, but they’re actually really hard to find. We need to keep Elliott at a minimum, some of his short passes to the other forwards to pop an offload to Sharpe on the weekend were great and something we missed. We probably need to keep Simple Jack too and find 1-2 more with FG experience.

I’ve come to realise I’m absolutely fine with Leo going as long as we replace him with someone FG standard.

With Leo and J Saf both fit, Leo has been playing about 60 minutes per game, including usually the full first half, to keep Jacob fresher for two 20 minuteish “impact” stints.

So yeah what we’re looking for more than anything else, if we want to maximise what we have going for us right now, is a player who can handle a big workload.

You can find them relatively cheap. Josh King, Max King, Jackson Ford. Terrell May makes $650K & relative to how he’s playing I would also call that cheap. May was doing this exact thing he’s doing now in firsts in NSW Cup, pumping out over 70 minutes and about 200 metresregularly.

Look at NSW Cup teams which are going really well (this year or last year), look at who’s been a forward in those teams & played huge minutes for them, but only gotten limited game time in first grade. And then next to their age look for a number higher than 22. A big gap between what that player is capable of and how highly the coach rates them, and guys who might be keen for a change of scenery due to plugging away for a while and not getting a real shot.

As far as I can see the current players who most fit the bill are Trey Mooney and former Knight Pasami Saulo. Both under contract but it’s the exact sort of situation where players commonly get a release.

We can replace his 13 Hitups 115 Metres 45 tackles in 60 minutes. The problem is we probably need three of those players for next season.

Apparently Dom wants to play centre. Maybe he is fine with playing another year next to Gags then taking Gags' spot from next season onwards.

Why three of them? There's only 240 minutes in the middle to go around each game, and most teams fill those minutes with six players. If we keep Elliott then between him, J Saf and Friz, that's likely about 150 of those minutes covered...

We definitely need one workhorse, but beyond that I think we need to not block the path to first grade of younger guys who might be more impactful...

Toohey's News

- There are questions over whether Jackson Hastings will see out the year at the Knights, but no other clubs have shown a willingness to take him off the Knights hands. Kind of suggests he may just get bought out but says Parr refused to comment on that. Toohey confirmed Hastings is a polarising figure behind the scenes and the leadership group made it clear they didn’t want him back in first grade late last season.

- Knights obviously want Dom Young and Young has told the Knights he’s keen to come back. Up to the two clubs to make it work.

- Dragons half Lyhkan King-Togia had agreed to terms with the Knights before being talked around by the Dragons during the cooling off period.

- Tyrone Thompson was sent off in reserve grade and now has a 3 game suspension for calling the ref a “f**king cheat.” Despite that Toohey says Knights are keen to re-sign him.

- Knights weren’t willing to offer Jye Linnane a 3-year deal after missing 2 straight years with ACL injuries and chose not to stand in his way when the Warriors offered that.

The only thing I have read today is saying he has previously wanted to play centre. That might have changed after a few years in the NRL. His defence would need to improve to play centre.

I would have thought at this point Schiller at centre and Dom on the wing is more likely, however by 2027 we have more options emerging.

It’s a great problem to have!

We haven't really replaced D Saf and I'm not sure we can rely on the other three alone given their injury history. I'd settle for two decent workhorses.

Depth. Look at what happened when we got a few injuries just this year. The kids aren’t up to it yet.

We certainly need depth in the middle as well as experience. I don't think we need to necessarily replace Dsaf like for like, we just need 2x workers. Problem is the quality working middles in the comp are second only to good halves for lack of availability on the market.
