I think you can look around the League and pick a lot more names that proved themselves viable first graders too. Development has only been part of the problem (and as you said, overstated). Coaching and retention have also been paining us immensely. For some reason other clubs have been able to coach a lot of our discards into really good contributors. And they're the kinds of players we could have kept cheaply and developed ourselves too.I know lots of people criticize our youth development but the likes of Best, Sharpe, Lucas have become genuine stars in the past few seasons. Hunt, McEwen and Hopwood potentially might go on to be solid/star players, maybe our youth systems aren't too bad? That's like half a starting side.
There's probably only one thing we've outright failed to produce in the past decade, and that's a real halfback.
