And their halfback…
Even better example. Literally exactly what the Raiders did. There was a mutual option and the Raiders tried to get him to take less than the option. And Fogarty is a 31 year old halfback rather than a 34 year old centre. Jamal has made probably less than a third of what Dane has in his career too.

Only bad when the Knights do it though I guess.

The Fogarty situation could so easily come back to bite the Raiders next year. Obviously they’ve way outperformed everyone’s expectations this year. They’re looking like a really good chance of being in the GF or at least a prelim at worst I reckon. But you then lose the bloke who steers the ship next year and I wouldn’t even rule out the Raiders flopping and missing the finals next year. If he goes on to play well at Manly and the Raiders have a hard time without him, then it looks like a really stupid decision imo.

No it's also a dumb move from the Raiders.
Speaking of it in terms of how it’s covered. They weren’t being questioned for basically pushing him out the door the way other clubs might be. And it’s not just a “winning solves everything” thing, the Fogarty stuff happened before they went on this run. All in spite of the fact that Jamal is one of the most impactful players on his team’s win rate in the comp (coming into this year they were something like 60% with and 40% without, Mitchell Moses and DCE might be the only players who significantly clear that sort of mark).

Mooney on contract until end of 2027, I know he's probably not super happy about lack of game time but what reasons do the Raiders have to release him? Zero that come to mind. Especially as they've let Saulo leave.
Let’s not forget there will be guys expecting more money in the coming seasons, so it doesn’t take much for a club to start letting players leave early especially when they’re trying to keep their big guns. Not saying we’re even guaranteed to get Mooney either way but things change quickly in the NRL.

I don’t get the impression Mooney is rated that highly within the Raider these days? A lot of hype about him from Raiders fans for a long time now but he seems to be getting overtaken by rookies. He’d have to be at least 23/24 by now too so I’m not surprised he’s frustrated.

Would not he surprised if they moved him along at some point to free up space to upgrade some of their current squad. Whether he’d be a really good get for us or not when he seems to have stagnated is another thing.

Think Saulo leaving, Papali only one more season that Raiders can let Mooney sit tight knowing they are ok, if not then they might let him go in a season or so

Yeah I reckon someone else will sign him for 2028 once they can start negotiating in Nov 26 and they will push for the early release then.

Now that Jarome Hughes is extending at the Storm, do we enquire about Jonah Pezet?

Long-term, Brown and Pezet would be great. Sharpe eventually to fullback, KP goes on his way.

I’m none the wiser as to how good Pezet could be. But do we seriously have no one coming through the grades that looks likely to develop into some half decent halfback?
