Well done stags. Now Foxsports read your posts.
Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne spotted at Parramatta Eels training
TWO-TIME Dally M Medallist Jarryd Hayne has been spotted at Parramatta Eels training in western Sydney on Wednesday as he prepares to depart Australia to chase his Olympic dream with Fiji.
For now, Hayne is solely focused on making the final cut for the Fijian Sevens Olympic team — a tough assignment for any athlete irrespective of natural talent.
The million-dollar question once Hayne is finished with the left-field attempt at making it to Rio de Janeiro is what next for the former NSW Origin and Australian Test superstar?
We already know after his San Francisco 49ers NFL adventure Hayne is a unique footballer who walks to a different beat.
Yes, French rugby union is an option. Yes, Japanese rugby union is also an option.
But Fox Sports has also been told if — and at this stage it’s IF — Hayne does decide to return to the NRL … then the Parramatta Eels are in the box seat to land his signature.
Stick with us for a minute here.
For starters, Hayne’s best mate Tim Mannah is still the club captain for the blue and golds.
Secondly, Hayne has repeatedly stated if he does decide to return to rugby league then the Parramatta Eels will get first and last crack at securing his services.
Thirdly, the fact Hayne actively trained with the Eels reserve grade squad on Wednesday while the rest of the team is in Darwin is another indicator.
Finally, Fox Sports has been told the Eels are crunching the numbers behind-closed-doors to try and work out how they could accommodate the NRL champion.
Given all the heartbreak the legion of blue and gold fans have been through over the last six months in relation to the salary cap scandal, loss of 12 competition points and $1 million fine, the return of Hayne could be the club’s silver lining.
Again we stress, at this stage it is only a big IF, but moves are underway to try and find a way to accommodate Hayne.
Of course, it’s contingent on Hayne wanting to return. Which is no guarantee.
The immediate question from rival NRL clubs will be how can Parramatta try and sign a superstar like Hayne given the club’s salary cap plight.
The answer is there is still numerous twists and turns to play out before it gets anywhere near a reality but the Eels are daring to dream.
