Well, we'll never know. But I think there's a fair chance that BA thought Peats would be asking for an amount of money better spent elsewhere in the squad (given that we have reasonable cover at hooker). I'm not suggesting that BA doesn't rate him or anything like that.
I must admit I thought for a long time that Peats was not in BA's plans for 2017, mainly due to the fact that Pritchard and King were re-signed and signed respectively over the off season and no moves were made to extend Peats (that we know of)....
Then there was talk at the time of having to let Peats go, that negotiations were about to kick off just before the cap shitstorm broke...
Either way, because of the money he was on it was likely a simpler equation to let just one player go like Peats than 2 or 3 others to make up the same dollar value...
When I actually think abot it now and look back to what was happening for us on the field after wins V the Dogs first time around and then smashing the Raiders... it's hard to believe it has all turned to crud in such a short space of time!
It's kinda like the episode of the Simpsons when the town folk all chip in to rebuild Flanders' house after the hurricane flattens it... it all looked schmick from the outside.... but when you pick at the seams and have a closer look it all fell in a heap!!
