I'm sure they have, but how many have won any comps?
Moimoi and Cayless never won any comps either. Not saying they couldn't have if they had played in better teams, but their level of power and leadership, respectively, were neither a guarantee of a premiership nor were they a requirement for making the finals.

And really, has there ever been a more powerful runner than Moimoi at his best? I reckon plenty (if not all) premiership teams never had a middle forward with his power. Cayless was obviously a good leader but I suspect there has been better leaders in premiership teams. I also reckon our choking problems weren't so much the fault of Nathan Cayless, but rather a lack of help from the rest of our 'leaders'.

That's a big call. It may be right but my impression of him was he was a solid player who matured early but never really improved after that. And was chosen as captain more for his temperament than his talent.

Seriously, give me a name of a better middle forward who has come to the club in the last 7 years who performed better than Cayless did for a decade?

Fair point. Obviously no one has done it for a decade but setting that aside, there's still not been any standouts. Although I still think it points more to our general weakness over that period rather than Cayless' ability.

Mate, I'm not saying Cayless is the world's best ever front rower, but he still performed better than any other front rower we've bought to the club since his departed, who in the most have been pretty below par.

Probably right. Although Mannah doesn't seem far off. And Brown and Moeroa could be equally good middle forwards. I was not saying Cayless was terrible but tended to be overrated due to his captaincy and consistency.

I've never heard anyone say that consistency is a feature of an overrated player.

I think I'm right in saying that no player has captained an NRL club for longer. Surely he was no mug...

He'd be the first forward picked in our current team. None of those players you've listed have played a single Fnals match at any stage since Cayless retired (7 years).

I don't think we're all that far apart on this. Cayless was a rock. Solid. Dependable. Long lasting. Good leader. But he wasn't great.

I think Cayless was great early in his career when the rules favoured more mobile forwards. The rule change prior to the '02 season really hurt smaller forwards like Cayless. But the way teams defend these days (and with limited interchange) I reckon Cayless would thrive in the modern game (yes obviously if he wasn't almost 40). He would play a lot like Nathan Brown.

Moses is on way - Mr 85% Will be here and will play next game for eels.
I dont know anyone or have any 'sauces', but a general observation from last night was his head wasn't in the game. He has done well up until last night but he was definately off the pace. Whether this was just an off night I don't know. But interesting you make your comment this morning.

And when we lead early on he gets to make more carries, both because we have more ball and because we can spend more tackles grinding through the middle. Plus if we score while Mannah is on the field he usually takes the kickoff return.

When we're chasing points he isn't the type of player to get a lot of carries.
Right but he is a large reason for us getting those early starts

I just think all this proves was our pack has been just shit in all that time. Brown is the best middle forward we have bought in a long time.

Whether this was just an off night I don't know
A Tiger fan here Agent 0, suggest you jump onto the West Tigers thread and ask other fans their opinion of Moses.

It wasn't just last night, it's more rocks than diamonds with Moses.

He certainly thinks he is better than he actually is. He will lose you more games than he will win you and when he stuffs up, he gives the players around him the death stare, like it's their fault. Immature kid, immature footballer.

I don't mind the rocks and diamonds thing with a 65 game half. That can be sorted.

For mine he looked like a shag on a rock last night stuck out on the right. Not sure if he's been told to wait out there, but he won't be playing like that with us.

Was not impressed with the way he yelled at his winger. Manu will throw him against the dressing room wall. Then Beau Scott will flush the punk's head down the toilet.

I think this sort of tough love will be what he needs. Clearly needs guidance and with one of the best players in the league next to him, he can relax and develop at his own pace. At the moment he is the man along with a young Brooks. Hasn't worked and I think having the experience in the forwards and with Normy may see him develop nicely.

Yes there's still plenty of flaws in Moses, but surely the pros far outweigh the cons. He's still a young'un learning the trade. With general lack of leadership and another inexperienced half with him, surely he'll benefit from change.

I saw that too and was pretty unimpressed. Corey used to do it a bit when he was younger so maybe it's a maturity thing, but he will need to pull his head in pretty quickly with our roster.

Even that forward pass at the end he was trying to offload blame. Yes, the runner over ran it but it was still his choice to throw the pass a metre forward.

Toxic environment throughout the club, he and Brooks just hasn't worked.
We have one of the league's best in Norman, with the pressure off, Moses can develop without the pressure of being the main man.
Whether it works or not who knows.
