Yeh, but I think the Sharks were told they'd have to include a t/f fee for Segeyaro in their cap.

Even if it is included, we wouldn't necessarily have to pay out the whole contract value. They might settle for 50% (given that haven't paid him a cent, and can keep the cash they were going to spend on him, and pocket the t/f fee).

seggy bought himself out of hie esl contract

With Semi potentially being available from this time next year, I can't see Mad Max forking out anything to get Semi out of his French contract. I think the conversation with BA will go something like this:

BA: Hey Max, Bernie's on another bender so I'm coming straight to you. I'd like to pay Semi's Toulon contract out so he can play with us next year.

Max: How much

BA: About $450k

Max: Haha. No seriously, how much?

BA: That's actually the amount.

Max: When is he available if he goes over there?

BA: About round 10.

Max: You need to lay off Bernie's gear!!

People have suddenly got all, Semi loves us, just cos his manager said something .... i wouldnt trust his f**kin manager.
This is hardly convincing but Bernie also went on record stating that Semi loves the club, BA and his team mates, and had it not been for the court case then it's likely Semi would have extended. Could also just be placating fans.

So how did Russell Crowe pay SBurgess transfer fee and now it's implied that it falls within your cap ?

Coz that was when the NRL were trying to encourage him to return to the game, I guess. I don't think Rusty paid that fee, by the way.....that might have been when SB originally came to Souths. The Segeyaro thing is probably also complicated by the fact the he just walked out on his English RL club, and the NRL might not want to be seen to be encouraging that sort of stuff. But, as I understand it, the default position is that transfer fees count towards the cap. The NRL are probably more likely to waive the cap-rating if the bloke is coming from another sport though.

Policy on the run.

Let's hope there is some consistency in the punishment handed down.

“The message is clear … players cannot put themselves in a position where they may damage their own reputations and that of the game,” said NRL Head of Integrity Nick Weeks.

“We have been consistent this year in imposing strong penalties where players bring the game into disrepute through actions off the field.

Norman has had a troubled season off the field.

“Whether it is drug possession, criminal associations or social media use, players understand the consequences that can flow from illegal or other unacceptable conduct.
