Happy meel and I both played touch football on the same team as Dallas Weston. He was a great bloke. His ball skills were quite lacking for a first grade footballer.

We played against Andrew Ryan after he retired, he could play!

Mitchell Moses parting the way for Parramatta to the finals

Mitchell Moses is feeling the serenity at Parramatta and is on his way to making one of the reasons for leaving Wests Tigers come true.

The 22-year-old has always maintained he wanted to play finals football and felt he stood a far better chance of that moving to the Eels.

With the Tigers sitting in last place on the ladder and Parramatta in the top eight, it seems an astute choice.

“It’s pretty exciting times, but we’ve got to take it week by week at the moment and the semis will sort itself out if we keep winning games,” Moses said after he secured Parramatta’s ninth win of the season with an 83rd minute field goal over Canterbury, 13-12, on Thursday night.

From his six games with the Eels, after leaving the Tigers in round 10, Moses now has four wins. That never happened in his three-and-a-bit years at Concord Oval.

“The most I’ve won is three games straight, it’s definitely different for me. I’m just happy getting that winning feeling around the club.”

Moses was speaking for the first time since he swapped clubs seven weeks ago. He had refused previous interviews citing the need to find his feet. He found them at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.

It was a fairly a complete performance from the young halfback, as his partnership with five-eighth Corey Norman grows in strength each match. They are very adept at pinning teams into the corners with their long kicking games.

‘We work on that a fair bit at training. We feel like if we’re kicking good, we get a good kick chase on the back of it we end up playing pretty good,” Moses said.

“That was the goal (against Bulldogs) — make them turn around, turn their big forwards around. It finally took a toll on them towards the end of that first half they were tiring out a bit because we just kept turning them around but we should have gone on with it in the second half.”

Moses defence has improved vastly after half-a-dozen games, drawing praise from coach Brad Arthur post-match. Arthur has moved centre Michael Jennings to the right to help Moses in that department.

The rest of the work Moses is doing extras on himself.

“I’ve been working pretty close with our tackle tech coach ‘Bump’ (Brett O’Farrell). He’s been massive for me, always gets me in before training to do a few extra tackles. I felt pretty comfortable.

“It was just about me getting more comfortable week by week, new defensive structures, getting used to what Parra do and I’m definitely feeling more comfortable now.”

The stability of Arthur is another bonus. Since making his NRL debut in 2014 he had three coaches at the Tigers in Mick Potter, Jason Taylor and then Ivan Cleary.

“Brad’s massive,” Moses said.

“He’s been a massive part but he’s just really narrowed down my game and made me feel a lot easier.”

Leaving the Tigers also meant Moses could reconnect regularly with his “life coach” Joe Wehbe.

“I do a lot of work with Joe Wehbe on the side and he’s massive for me. I spoke to him before the game. He got me back to feeling like I was a little kid again and not over-thinking things.

“I put a lot of credit to him. he’s definitely changed my career around and made me feel a lot more comfortable,” Moses said.

Of course the Eels have not been in finals territory since 2009 (or two years earlier than the last Tigers appearance in 2011) when they enjoyed a magical run into the grand final.

So Moses and the Eels could be heading for a double celebration.

we haven't exactly made the final just yet, we're still teetering

I think Margie McDonald has gone off a bit prematurely

Dumb article. Moses won four from six a few times last year at the Tigers.

And why isn't that dumb article in the Mitch Moses thread?

Moses can be one of our best signings in a long time if he keeps devoloping and reaches his potential. Too many people focus on his defence, we didn't get him for his defence otherwise we could have put f**king Jeff Robson in the team. People that focus on Moses defence are short sighted imo. We got Moses for what he can do in attack and to help out when Norman is shut down by teams. Good example of this was on Friday night.

Played touch football against Bruce McGuire (Tigers, NSW and Australia) back in the late nineties. I came across to make a tag on him and bowled him over with my hip and shoulder - complete accident but not the done thing in touch football. He got up and gave me an evil look and followed me for the rest of game just waiting to get me with the ball- I thought he was going to lay me out to square up. Had a beer with him at the end of the game.

Moeroa is a middle forward too (Gower was preferred at edge forward last night). Moeroa is already a solid first grader, and gets better every week. He is two years younger than Brown, whom this time last year plenty of merkins thought was a reserve grader.

Not me.

And as for Moeroa, the guy is hopeless. Very average forward at this stage of his career/development.

Nice bloke. I knew him when i was a kid, he and his family had a caravan in the same park that we do up the coast. Neville Glover had one up there too.

I knew Brown would be our best attacking middle forward just as I know Moeroa will be one of the best defensive forwards in the game in a year or two.

He'll be a decent tackling forward that is out muscled in attack each week.

Mate, it's not like the guy is 5' 9", he is a monster but runs like a 9 year old school girl who's wet her pants and crying for her mummy.
