Rumours and Stuff

Intelligence plays some part in spelling ability.

There is a difference between smart and intelligent. Smart people, for example, know a lot of facts. They, in essence, have a large storage system that can be filled with rote learning. These are the types of people that would do well on Sale of the Century, for example.

Intelligence is about solving problems. These people, rather than having, say, a large hard drive to store information, would have a good collection of apps to solve problems with. They may not know a lot of facts but would smash puzzles.

In regards to spelling, there are patterns that are inherent. It's a bit harder with English, because it's a hodge-podge of different languages mashed together, so a lot of different, often conflicting rulesets, but that just makes the puzzle more complex, increasing the intelligence needed to solve the puzzle.

So, you can figure out how to spell words. That's intelligence.

Being honest, however, you can also rote learn a bazillion words and thus use smarts to spell correctly. Still, intelligence has something to do with spelling ability.

As I said, I don't care about origin. It's just a glorified NRL game to me. Who the NSW coach doesn't bother me as long as it isn't Brad Arthur.

I beg to differ. I think having your club coach in charge of the SOO team is a huge advantage in recruitment for said club. That is one reason as to why they stopped it a while ago.

I for one don't want the SSO coach to be a current club coach, but if it must be, then I want our coach to be the one. I want Parra to have that unfair advantage if it is being offered.

You guys must be very young, have a bad memory or just plain silly, if you don't know that.

I'd rather our coach be an Origin selector.

Really? Don't think that's correct. Can't really recall an Origin coach that was also an NRL coach successfully sign an origin player from the state side he coached over the last 20 years. May have happened once or twice but not a common occurrence!!

Can you name one ?

The reason NRL coaches don't coach Origin is the time factor and work involved. It disadvantages your club side being away for several weeks along with the work load.
