After two games, where the match conditions (ie: lack of ball) have not favoured Bevan, everyone seems to think that he's had his go at fullback, and it's time for a change.

He's played two games there this year, and done pretty well, imo.

Bit harsh to move him to a different position, when he has not been our issue.

The only top eight team with a big fullback last year was Manly. The other sides had these fullbacks:

Slater
Gordon
Boyd
Smith
Holmes
Edwards
Coote

Guys like Boyd,Edwards,Gordon are far more powerfull.So is Holmes who runs hard but failed at position. Slater is a freak and Coote ball playing skills ar ebetter then most halves and why he keep his spot.

Last year? I wouldnt say he is done i just saying he hasnt proven himself there.

I think going into a game with Hoff and Bevan on wing is poor as well.

That's more likely to happen on the wing FFS. When teams aim to trap teams on their line they kick to the corners where the best kick chasers are.

But it didn’t? When he went back to the wing we instantly improved and he looked better, his a finisher. I am just stating the obvious, and it’s quite evident again this year that a bigger body at fullback helps us starts our sets.

Yes it may also occur on the wing but no where near as much as it does now.

Like I said last year was a prime example forget all other factors, Gutho at the back improved us infinitely.

His weaknesses are far more glaring on the wing. Maybe people don't notice them because he's a great finisher? Merkins used to always ask why Nathan Merritt couldn't get a run in Origin. Then he did. And unlike French he didn't have the attacking skills for fullback.

There not though, as soon as he went back on the wing he was scoring every week again, yes his a finisher like I said but the team is better with him on the wing. His weaknesses are way more glaring at the back, every set we start we start it 10 metres back from where the ball was fielded.

Why anyone can blame the backs when the Forwards look like they are chasing a sponsorship from ButterSoft is beyond me.

And that won’t happen with him on the wing???

His point is that it didn’t impact us too negatively last year when he reverted to the wing. In fact our win percentage increased. Let’s hope the same occurs this year.

It didn’t matter as much because we had a bloke named Semi on the other wing, now without him the start of our sets are struggling quite badly and this has put pressure on the forwards. Him and Hoffman on the wings will only make the worse.

Wingers can do whatever the coach wants them to do on set plays.

He graduated from Sharkies U20s I thought and in our top 30, so apparently capable of playing NRL. That is what the top 30 is for isn't it?

To claim the 110 year record regarding 49 points being scored against the eventual premiers, you should in all honesty adjust the scoring in games played before tries were worth 4 points.

Based on this adjustment, the record is a mere 64 years old and has happened more than once since 1908.

In '53 the eventual Premiers, Souths lost 2 games with an adjusted score of more than 49 points against them. In Round 1 they lost to the Magpies who scored 8 tries and kicked 10 goals for an adjusted score of 52 points (originally it was 44-28. In Round 7 they also lost to the Bears who scored 9 tries and kicked 8 goals for an adjusted score of 52 points also (original was 43-13).

Going back to 1947 when the Tigers l won the comp, they got done by Souths to the tune of 46-10 which if adjusted would be 56 points as Souths scored 10 tries and kicked 8 goals.

Hopefully we are still in with a chance this year afterall

Ah yes, but has any team had 50+ clear points, you know, to nil (unanswered) zip, scored against them ever and then gone on to win the premiership?

French is a freak as well. He has plenty of tackle breaking power. But receiving the ball against numbers, and near the sideline, obviously doesn’t suit his light frame. He is best running onto inside balls from his halves, like the disallowed try against Manly.

It’s no where near as glaring and we ended up doing better as a whole because of it so to me it isn’t a bad thing to have him on the wing, he currently is a better winger then fullback.

And if it means Auva’a is off the wing then i’ll take that any day, Hoffman and French and Hayne are all good under the high ball.

It’s all about value (with price a big part of this), plus for contracted players it depends whom the club is willing to release.

Both players paid about the same and on who contacted who. Sounds a bit like RS contacted us hoping to get a better player than Austin. Then depends on whether the player wants to move, to answer someone else, as you cannot make a contracted player to move if they want to stay.

Atleast I know both our wingers can take a bomb and have decent hands, as opposed to Auva’a who makes me have a coronary everytime he gets bombed. Yea it maybe worse without Semi but we have to work with what we have unfortunately and the switch of Jennings back to his preferred side and Auva’a back to his preferred position is enough upside for me.

Don’t forget we have Gutho coming back eventually his a big body and a powerful runner we will improve that area.

The introduction of Edwards will also help our power moving forward.
