So the below table shows some statistics from the matches that have similar scoring, so less than 20 points scored with 1-2 tries in total and 3-5 penalty goal attempts.

I find it interesting that there appears to be no correlation between the time in possession in a match and the number of tries, penalty goal attempts, penalties, scrums and drop outs (so play stoppages where time isn't stopped).

We had roughly the same amount of stoppages as two other games, but there was 15 minutes more game time in one and 19 more in another. 19 more minutes played 6-7 more minutes of game time than the others.

The Storm v Tigers had 20% more stoppages, so I can see why this match had less game time than the other two Tigers games, but I don't understand how Parra v Sharks was only 61:45 mins of playing time.

Anyone care to explain this one?

Sharks took 3 mins per penalty goal???

So again, why can't we sign the cream of the crop like others do?
Our table position obviously affects who we can recruit. Some players come for the money but many want a chance to win a premiership so will go to a strong club for less. Both Tedesco and Woods went elsewhere when Tigers offered the same or better for a better chance to win something.

If our season goes pear shaped this season it will obviously affect who we can recruit. We'll have to pay overs as we have for years to attract any decent talent. Our focus should be on developing juniors, as they are more likely to stay for less, if a chance to play NRL. Then stack the team with quality players in key positions, the spine and a few forwards, and build the team around them.

Has worked for years at the Storm but Bellamy is a super coach. Their philophesy is simple, develop large forwards and big backs with speed based around a good spine. And their recruitment is first class, they already have ready made replacements for their super stars. Compare that with Parra who haven't had a decent halfback since Sterlo retired. Just on that BA was assistant to Bellamy so what did he learn from him? Obviously not that big forwards win big matches.

Just on our current form I think something other than heat or lack of preparation is affecting us and the alleged rumours may have some basis of fact.

Imo big forwards do not win us the game in round 3; we had ample opportunity in the second half to score, but Moses and Norman just couldn't create anything.

The metres were certainly made to potentially win us that game.

I do think that we would benefit from a big, attacking-oriented prop, though.

Just as an aside, there are 22 players in the NRL over 115kg. Given 16 squads of 30 (roughly, I realise some have 29 or whatever) that is between 4 and 5% of NRL squad players

So I'd love to know where these fat props we need that BA has allegedly deliberately not signed are supposed to come from...
Some of the players weights listed certainly don't correspond to their real weight. Someone mentioned Matulino listed at 107kg and looking at him he has to be much heavier, but not 115kg, unless has hollow legs. We listed Fritchard at 112kg and compared to Mannah he is bigger and taller everywhere. If anything Mannah listed at 110kg seems too heavy for his build.

Being richest is irrelevant due to the salary cap.

Try and grasp this concept - TPAs, as a way of inducing players to play for you, is AGAINST THE RULES. It is cheating. And we have people running the club who have a specific remit to not cheat.

I wonder if Rammy was watching the press conference that just ended where Manly were fined and had their salary cap reduced by 660k (marquee money in some positions) for this exact f**king thing?

You have to factor about 10kgs for Timmy’s eyebrow.

So some players might be off by a kg or two. That's why I said between 4-5%, not the actual 4.4%.

I don't see how that's relevant to the question....given 4-5%% of the NRL fits the description of the players morons like you insist BA has deliberately passed on, where are all these players he should have signed?

Former Manly Sea Eagles CEO Joe Kelly banned for nine months, club fined for salary cap rort

MANLY have been hit with a $750,000 fine and two NRL officials have been suspended for 12 months after the club was caught rorting the salary cap to the tune of $1.5 million over the last five years.

Sea Eagles legend and rugby league Immortal Bob Fulton is also unlikely to be welcome back into the game due to his involvement as the club’s general manager until August of last year.

There is also a suggestion Fulton will no longer be invited to sit as an Australian selector for the Kangaroos.

Sydney Roosters CEO Joe Kelly - the former Manly CEO - and Sea Eagles chief operating officer Neil Bare have had their registrations suspended for 12 months after a nine-month long investigation.
Manly have also been hit with a $660,000 salary cap penalty to be applied to the club for this season and next season, meaning the Sea Eagles will be operating on a cap of $9 million.

The rest of the 15 NRL club’s will be operating on a cap of $9.3 million this year and $9.5 million next year.

The Sea Eagles rorting involved 13 players over a period of five seasons.

The NRL uncovered more than 800,000 documents including emails and text messages when they forensically audited the club in July of last year.

The Manly club was left fuming at the time after chairman Scott Penn invited the NRL to come and inspect the club’s books.

The invite came on the back of the match-fixing investigations from NSW Police Strike Force Nuralda, which resulted in no charges.

Of course no loss of points, although to do so at this early stage of the comp isn't much of a penalty.

Not sure if Manly will lose anyone over the cap penalty but perhaps the unrest may cause players to look elsewhere? I'd have a happy look at a big bopper if any were sick of playing out of that broke joint with more instability to come.
