How many of our forwards would make the starting sides of the top sides???

Brown, Mau and who else??

Paulo is signed for next season that makes 3. Tep if he can find some form is a maybe. We had plenty of depth this season but we were lacking in quality.

Quality big men win big games, and we are seriously lacking in quality.

Alvaro would make a lot of starting sides. Been better than Jesse Bromwich this season just for one example.

It may free up 4 months worth of his contract (July - October) if we didn't pay him out. But I'm guessing we did pay him out otherwise why would he retire? In that case it probably just frees up a top 30 spot to promote someone.

But fingers crossed we can get Lane here early and have him working closely along side Evans

This made me lol

So far potential pack of:

8. Paulo
9. ?
10. Alvaro
11. Mau
12. Tep
13. Brown

14. Mannah
15. Niukore
16. Peni
17. Lane/Evans

Taka, Stone ?

I actually don’t mind our pack there but we are lacking depth. We definitely need more signing which will come. A genuine 1st grader like a Tapau would really make us a lot stronger. And I hope we are still in talks with the Aussie/Super League hooker bloke as hooker is a worry.

I wanted to add the Bear, he’s been our best player this year. He’s gone to another level and if he keeps improving he makes that list.

Well you would hope so, we might be able to bring another young bloke into the top 30.

You guys deserve your own thread. :clown:

Isn’t a medically forced retirement treated differently under the cap than a normal retirement payout? Otherwise Watmough’s payout would have counted towards our cap.

Isn't that more so for what is left of their contract, ie. Watmough had another 2 years (?) left so that wasn't counted towards the cap. Scott only has 4 months left of his contract which if he was on 600k frees up about 200k. That basically only allows us to move a development player into the top 30 or a backup player. It's not going to make a huge difference to the quality of our team.

Alvaro, Mannah and Moeroa wouId also make the top 17 of most clubs (if not all)
I said starting packs, that’s my point we have a lot of handy players but most of them are Bench players at best compared to the top sides.

We lack quality not quantity, our depth hasn’t helped us at all.

St George’s depth is poor but they attracted quality in the spots they were weak in. They have a chance at winning a comp and injuries have been kind. It’s a model that has worked for Melbourne as well.

I'd say Melbourne have been successful using quite a few plodders around outright superstars, tbh.
Not sure you can really compare anyone to the Storm given the leg ups they have had

Yes, they are the NRL’s darlings but you could say over the years their depth hasn’t been that great. They spend all their money in the top 17 and hope they don’t have injuries.

Their great players have had amazing durability, I just think our model is flawed. I just think we chase quality where we are weak and back our crop of juniors to fill the voids.

What else is there to talk about?? FFS we are f**king ast and dreadful.

The season is barely half over and we are already talking about next year. It’s very exciting.

Might be just me mate, but your delivery of despair and concern comes across like this.

T Rex should be good to go by next year, fitness pending

Well until this current crop, we haven't really had any to speak of (#academy) for a while. I also don't agree that we arebt chasing quality where we are weak. Moses is quality and filled a desperate need, Paulo is quality and gives our pack the dimension its missing.

You still need back ups though. Especially when all ours are off contract. I've said before I think the Lane signing indicates a push for more quality players, because instead of one dimensional players like Matagi a guy like Lane has genuine utility in the pack. He can be a backup middle AND a back up edge forward, allowing us to chase a Taupau or an NAS or whatever

I don’t think Lane is a bad signing, just depends what we nabbed him for but he can play in the middle or on an edge and just 23.

Just don’t think he is top 17 quality but if he plays 10-15 games a season you know he can do a job.

Gleneel nailed it. We're signing another fringe forwards into a pack of mainly fringe players

Nothing more needs to be said. It's another desperate signing by Arthur and Gurr, and this is what's killing this club.

It's another Evans waste of cap space. Add these two together and Parramatta are exceeding upwards of 550k - 600k of wastage. Both players will never cement starting positions

Ba is only digging a larger hole for himself
Wouldn’t a desperate signing be paying massive overs for an Origin level player?

Or we could take a leaf out of Gus’ book and pay a players contract in advance to improve next year’s squad.

That last sentence is spot on.
