I think we'd get shredded on the edges in D. Moses and Austin are poor and Ferguson cannot defend in the centres.

While I haven’t watched a lot of Austin, he stats for a half aren’t that bad. They don’t show he is one of the worse halves in the comp. Additionally he has also been playing for a side that isn’t strong defensively.

And as I said last night, the stats don't show the number of times he completely misreads the play and the guy with the ball waltzes through a hole the size of the Yucatan crater...definitely one of the poorest defensive halves going around.

That's why stats aren't the be all and end all. The amount of times he rushes out of the line and tackles fresh air is high.

Actually pretty much what Baz has said below me.

Another problem with the Eels is developing young cheap outside backs good enough for first grade, look at Melbourne, Penrith and Souths for example.

You get them into the squad and get them on the cheap for a few years and it helps you chase quality in other area’s. Unlike us who are always buying and having to pay overs to strengthen the backline.

When was the last top quality back we produced that actually ended up playing for us???? Hayne and Inu???
French is probably the last one as he came into "our system" at a young enough age.

No one is disputing the fact we have had a dearth of juniors making grade over the last few years, however the horizon definitely contains more options than it has for a long time. Keeping in mind juniors take a while to develop, we have the Aukafalou bros., GL, Dunster and Fonua all outside backs coming through in the near future.

Is it helpful though that he has had to defend with Leilua?

Just on Koroibete, spoke to a guy who would definitely know about him and the ARU are definitely worried about losing him back to the NRL next season.

Of course, that doesn't mean anything in terms of Parramatta and they may well manage to keep him. But jeez I hope we get him. He's not Semi but he's the next best thing IMO

Probably not, but given he was just as bad at the Tigers and Penrith I'd also suggest that blaming Leilua is a cop out.

Austin is bad enough himself, pairing him with Leilua just makes it it more obvious

LOL you are kidding, how many tries???, try assist??? Line breaks???? line break assists??? He is decent at getting ball out of his own end but hardly in the Semi class.

He only plays well when he's off contract this bloke.

I really only don't like Fergo cos I reckon he's a better Shaun Kenny-Derp. He's a seriously dumb footballer. But he's a good winger and he's definitely calmed down without TheDugan around, he'd fill a need in that he's elite at running the ball back. He'd be an ok signing from a completely neutral perspective.

Which is not to say that I'd be happy with it necessarily, because I think he's a seriously stupid human and I don't like the prick. But I've had to deal with supporting worse players before lol.

Koroibete would be a hell of a lot better, obviously.

I didn't say that he was as good as Semi but if you are not impressed with the stats that I posted, then you have an axe to grind.

I will also happily admit at how wrong I was re Addo Carr. I said in here if they pick him he'll be like another Merritt but I was very wrong. I enjoyed his games for NSW.
