So is the problem that they’re not big enough or that they’re not playing well?

Both. Like I said they are busted. Size, or more importantly, the lack of it matters in the long run. 2-3 seasons of brutal in your face, fast line speed defense takes its toll and when you are on the lighter side as a pack, then it takes an even greater toll and that's is where we are at.

Like so many here have already stated, Semi won us a hand full of games that we would have lost without him, a favourable draw, plus less penalties and scrutiny at the play the ball gave our lighter forwards a massive leg up. We used to just walk over the ball ffs at dummy half. But all that this season has changed.

Therefore the opposition now come at us in numbers and we are the slowest play the ball in the NRL. Massive problem if you want to get your playmakers to do their thing. It is all about ruck speed and we have the worst, correlation? We we are last.

Quality size makes all the difference and we need more of it, plenty more. Not just fat slugs that can't move like so many of you apologist like to toss up. We the forthright realist all know that when we say big, quality is always presumed as part of the equation. It's like someone saying they want more size in their basket ball team, it is a given that quality is also desired. But I suppose I get that these are the ridiculous games children play.

We need at least one more very good giant palooka.

He signed Vave and Paulo for a reason.

Our 3 largest forwards are either injured and or playing like shit. Vave, Evans and T-Rex. If you look at that ridiculously ordinary troika as a Parra fan and don't feel deflated, then you have no freakin clue.

IIRC Norman was in top form when he was re-signed and was mooted for QLD origin. Tell me again how it was a stupid move to extend his contract for 2 years until 2019 after the season he had in 2016 ?

https://www.parraeels.com.au/news/2016/08/23/eels-re-sign-corey-norman-until-2019/

Signing him wasn’t the issue. It was the figure ($$). Surely BA knew of the risks involved, yet he signed him at full premium plus 20 % IMO, if in fact the 900k figure is correct for 2019.

I don't think it is. Both these articles are consistent with the amount we paid for Corey over 3 yrs - 2.2mill.

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/s...l/news-story/14ab81fa00f1a4ee44ea42f974da915f

https://www.couriermail.com.au/spor...n/news-story/9a8160113c1075e7beab36ad06395ad8

There's one from the Australian behind a paywall which says 2.2mill also.

Now if we are in fact paying 900k next year, that would have only left an average of 650k each year for the first 2 years. 2.2 mill divided by 3 yrs is 730k each year.

The 900 figure doesn't add up to me.

I agree with you on NAS, yet reports persist that BA wants him. Imo he won't improve our pack by much but we do need at least one but preferably two more big quality middle forwards to help Paulo. I believe that a forward can be too big to his and the teams detriment and around 120kg seems about the cut off point.

Reports persist? Dean Ritchie said it once, no one else has linked us to him before or after that.

How was it a premium plus 20%?

According to this article it was $2.2 million over 3 years:

https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp...l/news-story/14ab81fa00f1a4ee44ea42f974da915f

And the amount was generally what was reported.

That is $733k per year (it is possible we backend some his contract which is why $900k is being reported now), considering he was looking like going close to winning the Daily M in 2016 and one of the form halves, before his suspension, that seems like a pretty good deal - the amount factors in, his “issues” at the time as halves were (and are) getting a fair bit more then $733k per year.

So maybe BA did factor in the risks involved !! Maybe he did have an idea what he was doing!! But hey let’s always let the facts lean to BA is f**ken hopless!!

Anyhow I can just imagine the threads and post of here if we had let Norman go at the time, the place wouId have gone into meltdown!!

It could be possible we back ended his contract, so maybe it could something like this:

2017 - $600k
2018 - $700k
2019 - $900k

Except the crackdown is over and our forwards are doing fine. Our problem is that our whole attack is about shifting to the edges and teams are holding down ad nauseum and not getting penalised for it in the second half. Probably because the refs decided they gave too many penalties in the first half. Anyway, holding down means set defensive lines, which means we have fewer opportunities to shift the ball. In this environment of course we need shift focus back to the middle. It’s why we signed a couple of go-forward merkins.

You’re missing the point. At bare min we paid full price for him. Despite the shit he put us through and his poor attitude. He was re-signed after his publicly stunts/brain explosions. Why wasn’t he realessed back then? Is it any real surprise no one wants a bar of him at his 900k price. And rightly so. BA’s only hope is to attempt to amend Corey’s attitude.

We paid the market price at the time, which was unders based on what his form was but factored in his issues!!

You do realise that we signed him in 2016? Do you remember what happened that year? We had to sign someone in 2016 to play in the halves in 2017 and considering the 2016 shit storm, BA didn’t have a lot of options available!

It’s f**ken funny BA is getting shit for signing a player in 2016 when he had no board, no CEO, no footy manager, no chairman for a fair chunk of the season.

Of course no one is stupid enough to pay $900k but at around $600k he wouId have quire a few takers I reckon.

Yeah it wouId cost us $300k but it free’s up $600k, even the great Roosters move players on and subside their contracts!!

One other thing, we had a shit year, something needs to be done for next year, so at least BA is trying to shake up the roster rather then keeping the same roster and expecting an improvement!

I think rugby league players should be paid like salesmen.......sorry salespeople........base salary and when you meet certain KPI's you get your bonuses. Too many players get a good paycheck without accountability.

Yeah but if your forwards don't lay the platform, the halves won't have any room. If your centres are hogs they can starve the wingers of the ball. If Perenara is the ref they're all f**ked. Good luck with setting fair and reasonable KPIs.

In which case, Corey Norman has provided pretty good value.

What are you basing value on, games played? Have you factored in his attitude and how it could be rubbing off on the younger players? For the $$$ we’ve paid Corey and considering next years salary, he’s been ok. If you think we’ve got good value out of him, do you really think BA would want him gone?????

Firstly, we obviously have a different opinion and I don't mind that.

But....Corey was great last year and has been, IMO, very good this year in a badly beaten side. If his contract value was less the first 2 years than the last, then to me that's been good value. I do think that we can have gotten good value AND also want to move him on next year. They aren't mutually exclusive. Personally, I have been more disappointed in Moses this year, but I'll be f**ked if I know how to fix it. I'm also not sure I totally believe that he's the disruptive merkin that he's made out. I don't know.

So why are Corey, Mitch, Bevan, Mennings, Taka and Gunco all having their worst seasons ever even though our forwards are pretty similar to what we have had for a while? Its a bit of a mystery.
