Rumours and Stuff

I’m hearing some very interesting rugby league names have popped up on the list of hopefuls for Parramatta’s vacant football manager gig.

Two former Canterbury forwards and an ex-international now in the media have apparently put their hands up.

None of them – as far as old Lurker knows – have the necessary runs on the board to take on what is a tough job”

I’ll stick my neck out here but I’ve been informed we have secured Marty Taupau.

I have however had better sources.

He is under contract until 2020. Does that mean that Manly have given him consent to walk ?

WouId help transform our attack big time.

I know we criticised our halves a fair bit this year and they did deserve it!!

And our attack was to side ways and at times it looked like we had no “space” out wide.

But I reckon a lot of this had to do with us having no real threats in the middle (we have workers and made metres but no attacking threats to break the line) thus opposition defences could shut us down out wide to easy, they knew we wouldn’t attack in the middle with set plays so could just focus on stopping the backline movement.

Additionally our halves had no line breaks / tackle busts from our middle forwards to attack from.

With paulo and potentially even Tapau (and lane), our attack will be so much better. Yeah Norman and Moses have faults, but they are pretty good runners of the ball / decent attackers from broken play which bigger bodies will provide.

Maybe the reason Tapau is being let go (if there is any truth to it):

My spy tells me there was a clear division in the player ranks at Manly’s end of season awards night – and that does not bode well for what already looks a troubled 2019

Certain players kept their distance from others and you could cut the tension in the room with a knife.

And while Trent Barrett’s moving speech bought him to tears and resulted in a standing ovation from the crowd, I’m told chairman Scott Penn’s speech when down like dog poo on the shoe.

Whoever takes over as coach is going to have a massive task ahead of him

There was a tip-off from a punter on social media earlier this week that renowned player agent Wayne Beavis had been spotted meeting Cronulla chairman Dino Mezzatesta.

NRL Leaks can reveal the mail was good.

Premiership-winning Sharks coach Shane Flanagan, who is managed by Beavis, is set to receive a new two-year offer from the Cronulla board, which to everyone in league land would seem a no-brainier.

The Sharks have enjoyed their most successful period in the club's history under Flanagan, who has led Cronulla to seven of the past eight finals series.

By re-signing Flanagan, the Sharks will also be able to ensure they hold onto some of the game's hottest young talent of whom the head coach has helped foster in the club's elite academy including Briton Nikora, Jayden Brailey, Bronson Xerri and Flanagan's son Kyle.

They were reportedly shopping him around this year without his knowledge. When he found out he was pissed. I think he'd be a good addition.

Yet another dud signing by BA !

Would be a massive help with our forwards...

Our biggest issue is the forwards...

Look at how the 2 edge forwards from St George destroyed the Broncos last weekend!

The rules around TPAs mean it isn’t a fair fight with the Roosters on the recruitment front.
That's right. We need to take risks to compete whereas they can just play it safe through mean reversion. Risks include older and injury-prone players, as well as players known to be inconsistent. If we want a successful season we need a majority of these merkins to have better than average performance for the year. Obviously if a majority perform worse than average at the same time we get a wooden spoon. It's very exciting.
