That's where Mark O'Neill comes in. If BA isn't in charge from 2020 onwards O'Neill should be making the decisions as to who we offer contracts to.

I’m sure he oversees it, but surely the coach chooses the game plan and style of play - so he would want a say in who fills those crucial roles.

So how were we among the premiership favourites? Everyone was surprised we ran last. If we had the worst squad that wouldn’t have been the case.

They were wrong. Very wrong. Where do you think the bookies have us finishing next year? Ill give you a hint. It is not up the top.

But if we have no coach then O'Neill will have to be the one who signs and re-signs players, you can't wait for the new coach to start on the 1st of November.

Of course the coach chooses the playing style and game plan but for the most part in the 1st and sometimes the 2nd years of a coach's tenure they'll have a squad mostly assembled by the previous coach anyway.

Yep, further proof as you say he is throwing darts at a dart board and hoping one hits a bullseye.
Every season is throwing darts at a dartboard and hoping not to accidentally hit the dog. Trent Robinson and Ricky Stuart have hit both bullseyes, yet Stuart only won five games in 2013 and Robinson won six (same as us this year) in 2016.

It's very exciting.

I can't say I'm all that hopeful for major improvement. I'm confident we'll win more games but probably just enough to be in contention for the finals at best. The attack under BA has been poor for the most part, and there's no reason to think that will change. I think BA has a lot going for him but NRL coaches should be the cream of the crop, and I don't think he is tactically. And there's f**k all brains and leadership in the playing squad, which can make up for coaching shortcomings. Still, as an eels fan I rarely expect success anyway, so it's not all bad.

So if we aren’t planning extending him, why we going in 19 with him as head coach? It’s not like he’s set the world on fire the previous 5 years. Or jagged us a comp
We are probably waiting to see if 2018 was a flash in the pan. We won six games this year ffs. We nearly won three times as many last year. WTF is going on?
