El Masri was a soccer player in his youth.
He kicked the ball alright. From a tee anyway.

Rest of his game was pretty shithouse though.
I went to school with Eels player Jeff Perl. He was a few years ahead of me and was my brothers best friend.

He was a Jnr rep soccer player and was recruited by the two blues as a winger goal kicker. Not sure if he repped with union but he was a gun goal kicker and could literally pot a goal around the corner style anywhere inside the halfway line.

He was signed by the Eels and was not a great success. I can't recall how many FG games he played in the late 80's but it would have to be less than a dozen.

I remember Jeff Perl, he was a gun goal kicker no doubt about it. Wouldn't he have come across from union about the same time Andrew Leeds did? And yeah, I remember being excited to see Perl playing for the Eels because I knew he was slotting them over from everywhere for the 2-blues, but he wasn't a success. If I wanted to see him running around in a blue and gold jersey I generally had to get to Parra Stadium for the 1:30 reserve grade kickoff back in those days!!

Yeah but his rugby union percentages were much higher.... Think it was around the mid-50's....

I did say he wasn't a success in league to be fair....
Mate I wasn't having a go.
The stats I provided just answered Gronk's question about how many games he played (2) and your question about whether he played at the same time Andrew Leeds (1987 v 1989).

Jeff certainly came to Parra as a gun goal kicker. Those stats above probably had a lot to do with his limited games in FG.

Yeesus! Good find that Gronk.... Didn't the 2-Blues win the Sydney rugby comp in 1986 too? What a year, Panasonic Cup and Winfield Cup in League, the Sydney Union champions... last time we won a Union Test at Eden park too wasn't it? For a Parramatta lad like myself, we'll never see the likes of 1986 again!

Also - how about the fishing columnist's name in that old Sun-Herald - Dick "Lewers".... how appropriate... and yet almost verging on a good porno actor's name....

I have a vague memory on a particular April 1st Craig Johnston was recruited to play for the eels. They had him kicking goals from everywhere. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately it April 1st

He's a good player for sure but do we really need him? I guess he could play right wing. He adds utility being able to slot anywhere in the back line and the halves.
I think we do. Gutherson is a fullback or centre. French still needs to put on weight as he is being rag dolled too much for my liking. Lolohea has a pretty good short kicking game and is very quick and powerful.
