NRL superstar Valentine Holmes has reportedly quite the NRL immediately to chase a dream of playing in the NFL.
The Daily Telegraph was the first to report the news Holmes has knocked back multimillion-dollar deals from the Sharks and Cowboys to try to follow in Jarryd Hayne’s footsteps in the United States.
Holmes was earlier this year offered the richest ever deal in Cronulla history.
Holmes returned to Sydney from his off-season holiday to Cuba and the United States this week and was expected to announce his decision to either re-sign with the Sharks or make a dramatic move to North Queensland.
Nobody expected his move to be as dramatic as quitting the NRL.
The report claims Holmes wants to break his contract with the Sharks to chase a career in the NFL.
Holmes remains contracted at the Sharks through to the end of the 2019 season and was one of the hottest players on the NRL open-market for the 2020 season.
Holmes famously trialled with NFL teams when his last NRL contract was negotiated with the Sharks — travelling to the United States with Cowboys weapon Jason Taumalolo in 2016.
