Jock Brazel awarded Moree Sportsperson of the Year
Jock Brazel has been awarded the Moree Sportsperson of the Year at the
2019 Australia Day ceremony at Jellicoe Park.
The 15-year-old rugby league player was absolutely thrilled to receive the award.
“I'm honoured to be honest,” Brazel said.
“Very privileged and very grateful. Thanks to my family, Lions and everyone here.”
Brazel has been selected in seven representative squads so far, representing Group 19, Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS), Greater Northern Tigers, and most impressively the Under 16s Parramatta Eels side.
It hasn’t come without a lot of hard work for the young centre.
“A lot of training. A lot of travelling to different towns playing football,” he said.
“I travelled to Parramatta last week and we had an apprentice camp up there and then trained and played a game against the Bulldogs.”
Brazel has capped off an outstanding year with two contract offers from the Parramatta Eels and Canterbury Bulldogs.
He will continue to play for league in Moree before moving to Sydney to accept one of those offers.
“I’ll still play for Moree this year and continue to play and train with rep squads until November,” he said.
“I’ll head up there when I sign, obviously. I have a possibility to sign with Bulldogs but pushing towards Parra.
“I will head up there in November, start preseason and train and play with them on weekends. Living it up in the big city.”
