People seem to forget, don't know or simply don't listen to others that constantly say it, that Salmon has had more experience in running off halves into gaps than he is the one who is delivering the pass.

Pinning our hopes on an unknown would be putting Salmon in the halves. I reckon the reason Salmon played in the halves last night was that there was no one else rather than him playing centre where we had Parry and Hoffman.

Salmon runs a really nice line, he's strong and fast. I personally think he'll make a good centre this year and continue to get better. As a full-time half, I think he has limited potential.
Sticking a support player and a part-timer in the halves shows cleaarly what the game plan was. Follow Evans, and get the ball to French.

French should be released for his own good. I’d even offer to release him this year to the Cowboys (they need a fullback with Barba gone) in exchange for something decent. Maybe their winger.

Star Rabbitohs prop George Burgess heads list of stars off contract after 2019

DEAN RITCHIE, The Daily Telegraph

South Sydney continues to work toward re-signing the only off-contract Burgess brother – George.

George’s deal at Redfern ends after this season and he remains unsigned despite brothers Sam and Tom committing long-term to the Rabbitohs recently.

There had been speculation George would sign with Brisbane or travel back to the English Super League.

But rumours appear wrong.

Souths are working diligently through their salary cap hoping to make George a worthy and respectful offer.

Rabbitohs management have kept George informed throughout the process. Burgess is said to be “comfortable” with the situation.

It is understood George’s manager made a few preliminary inquiries about Super League but the giant Englishman doesn’t want to leave Australia with a young family.

Souths officials are desperate to retain Burgess, who has remained at the club since arriving from England back in 2012. He is only 26-years-old.

Burgess’ future at Souths could depend on whether Souths can settle an ongoing salary cap issue with the NRL over winger Robert Jennings.

George Burgess is one of several big name players still unsigned for next season.

Each player has this coming season only to be re-signed, sacked or lured elsewhere

Some of those players off contract after 2019 include Corey Oates, Tevita Pangai, Jordan Rapana, Joel Thompson, Alex Glenn, Issac Luke, Clint Gutherson, Mitch Moses, Tim Mannah, Bevan French, Mitch Aubusson and Chris Lawrence.

Roosters champion Cooper Conk has just one year remaining but suggestions continue that he may consider another season in 2020.

The Roosters have left that decision entirely to Cronk.

After claiming last year’s wooden spoon, Parramatta is waiting to see how their off-contract stars – Gutherson, Mannah, French and Moses - start this coming season before offering new deals.

Three champion players off contract following this season – Paul Gallen, Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah - may opt for retirement.

OFF CONTRACT AFTER 2019

Cooper Cronk

George Burgess

Mitchell Moses

Corey Oates

Tevita Pangai

Jordan Rapana

Joel Thompson

Dylan Walker

Clint Gutherson

Tim Mannah

Bevan French

Issac Luke

Mitch Aubusson

Chris Lawrence

Alex Glenn
Any of those non current players would add significantly to our squad. Easier said than done though.

Hmmmm.....
I'm the one not trying to contradict people that were at the game or making excuses and spinning up a storm.

OA and Parrathruandthru are quality posters and I judge their opinions especially that they were there and actually watched the game.

Interesting to see from the podcast thread that Dylan Brown prefers playing 6 to 7 because he considers himself a running type of half. He has also played fullback. And at 95kg (surely he’s joking there) he would have to be the biggest half in the Comp.

I think he is only 85kg and taking the piss.

I’m not contradicting their facts, just their assessment. Do you know the difference?

I don't agree or disagree with you. Or Pou, for that matter. I wasn't at the game so I have NFI what went on.

But you have to admit, you criticised Pou for not being there but reckoning he knows better than anyone else regardless, and then three posts later did exactly the same thing to him.

From what I've seen, he does love to run. Almost as his first option.

He'll be a very dangerous player if he learns to balance that run first approach with some sleight of hand. The best halves commit defenders, and I think he definitely has the ability to do that regularly.

Again, from what I've seen of him, which is no doubt less than others.

I have read what has been said by quite a few posters on here, TCT and One eyed trouser Snake. They all seem to say the same thing. Evans and French were poor, Pou wasn't at the game but wants to argue anyway and spin and make excuses like he always does. Classic Pou.

The kid from all reports has a great attitude which is very important.

Whatever happened to Troy Dargan?

Edit: went to broncos and playing QLD Cup. Another overhyped junior?

Yes but so has Pou, that's the point.

You're both arguing your interpretation of what others have said about the game...so it's slightly ridiculous to have a dig at him for it while you do the same thing. After all, you're pretty much saying you know more than him based on the same reports...

I'm just going by what was reported by all and sundry, Pou is doing the opposite. Anything for an argument.

Still in the Broncos system, and in their first grade squad. Had a pretty solid season for Norths Devils last season without being a standout. I'd say he'll get a shot if Milford or Nikorima are injured. Or if Milford swallows a small elephant again during the off season

When did I say they weren’t poor? I said they took the majority of risks for their team. Obviously this resulted in more turnovers than line breaks. A bad day at the office, but I’ve also seen the halves criticised. If Evans has poor support play he’ll have more defenders on him. If French gets the ball too early or late at second receiver it limits his chances.

He got an NRL contract at 21, at a very strong club. How many halves can make that claim?
