He offers an additional option that you don't rate. It's still an additional option whether you like it or not.

More options = greater depth.

How is he an option if he's not good enough to replace an injured player, and he's not putting pressure on current first graders to retain their spots?

Well, he hasn't been effective so far. And the value will depend on two things: 1. exactly how much money we paid for him, and 2. whether he gets back into first grade and is 'effective' or not. So far, he has not offered value for money.
For how much I think we paid him I agree he hasn’t offered value for money. But it’s a three year contract so there’s plenty of time to offer even less value. It’s very exciting.

He played eight games, and ran for 100+ metres in two of them. Great effort for a backup, woeful for a top 17 forward. Evans is a depth player - between the two categories.

He IS good enough if BA chooses to use him. He was in the 17 for the Roosters FFS!

He isn't an option that you like. But you wont convince me that he isn't an option. That's absurd.

So, he's not value for money (so far); he's not been an effective player for us so far; but he's 'an option'. Well, I suppose sticking your cock in a pepper grinder is an option, too. But not one that I 'd pay $200,000 for. Is he an option that you like?

No, that part's not exciting. The part where he gets a whole lot better and becomes a viable option for first grade is exciting.

Hang on, did BA choose him?

I thought he wasn't an option?
After he f**kEN DUMPED HIM TO RESERVE GRADE! he was actually pretty ordinary. It was the round 19 game where he broke six tackles and ran for 200+ metres that he finally had a go. He was in the next two NRL games and ran for 120+ metres in both (and we won). He missed the next game (a loss in Melbourne) before coming back into the side for the final two floggings against the Cowboys and Roosters. They were probably his fault too.

They aren't the only relevant stats. And what about the other six games? How many dropped balls, poor passes and defensive lapses? The guy was a f**king dud in 2018, as you well know.

Let's take it all back a bit Re Evans...

Who here, after Parra announced the Kane Evans signing - even if you do actually remember the presser at the time when BA mentioned he would add "depth" to our club or if you've dug up press releases from the time to suit your argument -... How many of you actually thought Evans was signed to play for Wenty and put pressure on our shitty merkins playing in the top 17 for 3 years??

I'd love to see some Pou posts from 2017 saying that he's super happy we signed Evans to come and play reserve grade....

This merkin was part of a successful club and winning culture since he came in to 1st grade... He was bought because BA thought he would improve our first grade team pure and simple. Anyone arguing against that is kidding themselves and arguing he was bought for depth is embarrassing IMO. It's letting the merkin off and not holding him accountable as far as I'm concerned.

It's Darcy Lussick MK II, that's how it feels to me... The potential is there and I'm not writing him off yet... But people trying to convince themselves and others that he hasn't been a terrible signing to this point need to take a step back and be honest.

I thought he was a good signing, and hoped he'd bring grunt and a mentality of success from where he'd been... But he has been nowhere near that.

Funny that BA wants him to work on most aspects of his game then, isn't it?

No I thought he would be top 17 for sure. I remember how he killed it in 2015. That's the level we want from him.

But what I thought is irrelevant. The club signed him for depth. The coach even said as much at the time.

Not really, but he adds depth to the squad and as such I don’t hold unrealistic expectations.

If you pay $200,000 to stick your cock in a pepper grinder do you have to include it in the salary cap?
