Rumours and Stuff

McInnes is one of the more left-field signings I’ve heard of for us in recent times, but I think he’d be a major step forward. The bloke was only very marginally behind Cook for mine as NSW hooker last year, and I think he’s a better defender than Cook, as well as being very solid in attack. He’d have to be our best dummy half since Peats if he does sign. Hope it comes together.
I find this hard to believe, why would the Saints offload one of their 'stars' with just 2 weeks before start of season? Doubt they are over the cap and who is his logical successor?

I don't have understand what you're saying. Just by being charged with a crime he has broken a code of conduct? Even if he's innocent? What about Semi Radradra, did he also break a code of conduct? What about the hundreds or thousands of players that have gone out to a pub or nightclub, consumed alcohol and gone home without incident? Have they also broken a code of conduct?
On players making wise or unwise choices I somewhat agree. If you're a dickhead on the piss then don't drink.

Chances are if you’re a dickhead on the piss you are probably also a dickhead whilst not on the piss, in which case do you think they will take it upon themselves to stop drinking piss?

The length of the deal has nothing to do with price. It is a separate factor, and long contracts are used to keep the price down. As for the player's age, the signing club factors it into price (and likely rises in the cap). So if the club decides he is worth 5% (for example) at age 29 they might decide he will only be worth 3% (though of a bigger cap) at age 32. You act like they're unaware of how old the player will be through the various years of a contract.
Hasn't worked for BA yet has it?

Rival clubs circle as Sharks brace for roster cut

8<

Club management have exactly two weeks to shift at least one player off their books, and potentially another squad member by June 30.

NRL rules require teams to have 29 players on their books by close of business Friday, which NRL.com understands Cronulla have done with the midweek signing of James Segeyaro, and another player added to complete their top 30 by the mid-year cut-off date.

A spokesman for the league said the NRL would not confirm whether Segeyaro's one-year bargain basement deal has been officially registered by head office.

Given the Sharks must replace any player moved on with another squad member on at least the $72,500 minimum wage, the club must technically shift at least $425,000 if they release one player.

To move on two of their lesser earners before round one would inflate that figure again beyond $500,000 given another replacement player would need to be added to Cronulla's books.

Such a scenario points to a mid-tier player such as Chad Townsend, off-season recruit Josh Morris, Matt Prior or Jayden Brailey being in the firing line if the Sharks are to come under their revised cap by shifting only one squad member.

The Walker situation is strange. They came up with this 11 year sentencing rule (obviously for the De Belin case) but on the same day came up with another rule that says Todd Greenburg can stand players down if the sentence is under 11 years at his own discretion? Why come up with this 11 year sentence rule at all if he can just make it up as he goes along? It's a farce

I think it's obvious that Greenburg sees Walker as a serial offender. But in reality that's not his call. It's the police and the courts who should be making that call. Also, his partner has now got a history of making allegations and then retracting them. I know that could imply two very different scenarios, but it does cloud the case somewhat so that it maybe isn't as cut and dried as Greenburg seems to think it is.

I’d take Morris for the year.

Agreed, but we already have heaps of them.

These members of the full time pre-season squad played Harold Matts or SG Ball for Parra:

Drown -Yes
Dunster -Dont see in 1sts
French -Dont see in 1sts
Kaufusi -Most likely
Mannah- Prob last season
Moeroa - Yes
Moses - Hmm tough one- I see him as a tiger.
Parry - Most likely
Paulo- Yes
Pritchard- Gone
Schneider -Most likely
Terepo - Yes
Futoikamanu -Gone
Sutoikamanu- Most likely

These guys played NYC/Flegg for us:

Alvaro
Faingaa
Leleisiuao
Mahoney (he might've even played in our SG Ball team)
Salmon
Stone

Plus Ma'u and Niukore made their NRL debuts for Parra.

Top 17 I see maybe 9 guys who ours. That is very good tbh. A few years back it was about 4.
I think its possible in 2020 we have 10-12.

Doesn't it depend on what the code of conduct is?!?

I dont happen to have a copy. But the players and NRL do!
They don't need to even do anything illegal to break a code of conduct. It is just to do things they have been told they cannot do. if they get stood down for that, all good. If getting charged (or putting oneself in a position to get charged) is a no go, then they should get stood down, right?

Didn't the Chooks have a 'no booze' policy during last season? It would be fair of them to stand someone down for having just one shandy at a backyard bbq.
If a code of conduct says you need to maintain an upright public profile, then yes,.by nature of being charged (guilty or not) you could be stood down

What code of conduct did Jack De Belin break?

What social media policy did he break?

When did he expose himself in the public sphere?

I dunno - do you know he didnt break one??
But if he didn't, and gets stood down, then he could sue for loss of potential earnings (if it costs him an origin spot).
If he did, and gets stood down, that's fair, right??

Innocent till proven guilty is nit the be all and end all when it comes to workplace relations. Being charged might not be acceptable for him?

But brings the game into disrepute, which IS part of his contract conditions, so the NRL cares. Although probably released by someone outside his control, like Napa, probably best you don't video your sexploits.

Exactly

And the morons were most likely taught this.
