What's really irritating in all of this Gutho business, is his managers willingness to harm the progress of the Eels season to try for elite money for a non elite player, and do it in the media spotlight through his Telegraph contacts.

That's his job, but his employer, Gutho, as captain has a position to not do this, that's so disappointing and a reason that his status is falling. I called him a fan favourite , but talking to one of the people who hang around after games, he says that he does little to interact with fans and at times doesn't even acknowledge them, not as popular as those of us in the stands would think.

I wouldn't trust the media outlets as a source for truth, the player managers leak figures well,above the actual deal as part of their attempt to attract new clients.

Been lucky enough to know a few players, and their advice is that published amounts are often $100k to $200k above reality.

So would I but Gagai is an incumbent Origin player. And has the most tries of the current QLD eligible players. In fact he'd be close to odds on to finish with the most tries ever for QLD at this rate, especially if Holmes is gone for a length of time.

It’s all relative though isn’t it? If that principle is applied consistently then it’s still a fair comparison. I reckon merkins (not you) underestimate what decent players are on.

Yeah but the position he plays is not as valuable as a spine position. Fergo would have to be close to the best winger in the game, is a (former and potential) origin player and was supposedly signed for around $500k.

We’re guilty as well of paying massive coin for non-spine players including Mennings.

I’d also rather Gutho than Mennings if it came down to a choice.

You mean he could LOCK himself in at Manly for $3M over the next 4 years or he could take $1.95M from us for 3 years and sign a contract with us for 2023 of say $900k (based on salary cap increases), effectively making the difference only $150k over four years, which as the captain of our club he will potentially get with legit TPA's as the CBD of Parramatta grows and more corporates are attracted to the club with the best stadium and corporate facilities in Sydney?

Wouldn't that mean Sam would earn less and have to work more though?

Hang on...have I missed something? Why would some "corporate" who was attracted to the club by the stadium be into providing TPA's? I'm guessing if you want a corporate box, your not considered someone who can provide TPA's (legally anyway).

I think people rating Gutherson as far better then Johnston are a little bias. Different style players but Johnston causes so much chaos in attack with a bit of a space due to feet and speed.
