Regarding the 4 year contract, gutho isn’t the fastest back going around however currently he is fast enough for fullback.

However if you factor in his ACL injuries and that most players lose speed as they age, by year 4, it’s quite possible Gutho may no longer be suitable for fullback.

So I can understand only offering a 3 year deal (additionally there is his injury history)

When he’s too slow for fullback he will certainly still be good enough as a supporting half. His kicking game will improve because he works so hard.

Yeah but wouldn't Drown and Moses be our long term halves? Surely both of them will "Outlive" Gutho at Parra?

Why would he bother?
I actually think it’s a bad sign for us. If he weren’t interested, he’d say nothing. By saying this, I think it indicates they are interested but they also don’t want to be dragged into bidding war. If media bullshitted about one offer, what’s to stop them from bullshitting our counter offer to Manly, and so on

He probably won’t be able to claim insurance due to it being pre existing?
First incident occurred while at manly or is it the other knee since he signed with us

You don't get from his body language that he thinks it's ridiculous that they're making a play for him?

I mean Des is a shrewd operator yes, but it serves no purpose to play silly buggers with this, especially since Parra have already gone on record saying they won't get into a bidding war over anyone (not in those exact words, yes, but that's what they've said)

I'm pretty sure Gutho is the furthest thing from his mind. If he is interested and they do get him? OK. there are other fullbacks in the NRL is my opinion.

He was asked directly - firstly about the alleged meeting and then whether Manly were interested in signing Gutho. All he did was answer the questions. If he had said nothing imagine the headlines:
"Hasler refuses to rule out Manly play for Gutherson"

I’m talking from Des’s point of view. He’s not playing silly buggers or throwing us a bone, he’s just doing what’s best for Manly. He may or may not be actually interested but he could have easily said they hadn’t been contacted by Gutho and left out the stuff about cap position

Yeah I think his future is still probably centre or five-eighth in more of a Blake Green mould. Kick and pass and allow for a more attacking seven.

I think pace is much less of a requirement at centre. Or more accurately, there are a wide variety of centre types. If you can beat your man, put the winger and edge forwards into space, and defend then you can be a quality centre without being that fast. And Guth can do all that.

Obviously if he maintains his OK pace, he'll stay fullback. It's probably his best position right now

If he can vastly improve his kicking, he reminds me of Lockyer. A little
