That's right. The problem isn't our solid first graders. We have about 20 blokes good enough to win a premiership. The problem is we lack stars. That isn't the fault of players like Tim Mannah, who would walk into the top 17 at any NRL club, including the Roosters and Storm.

I could on his best form consider Moses a star. Jnr and Fergo are close also.
No one else is good enough currently to reach that status.

Oh now you've done it

I said the Roosters squad had a lot of nuffies and people called me names! Of course they also suddenly vanished when I asked them if they'd like to trade Lindsay Collins or Craig Garvey for our blokes... Lol
Well I said that back when we signed Kane Evans, suggesting that he might not be all that great. However it later didn't suit my argument so I forgot about it.

I think Drown, Kaufusi and Mahoney are potential stars (or the better players in their position), we just need to obviously keep them and be patience for the next 2-3 years. You can build a good side around those 3. I also reckon they are “leader” type players and are “winners”.

Er, Gutho? He's certainly good enough to be top 5 in his position.

Star is such a useless term anyway. Jaeman Salmon is a star relative to all the blokes he grew up playing with

I consider them stars too. They'd play Origin if their club side is playing well every year, but not otherwise. I'd probably still consider Mennings in that category too. Nathan Brown might be close.

But even those five aren't a lot. The Roosters have Tupou, Mitchell, Keary, Cronk, Taukeiaho, Friend, JWH and Crichton. Plus genuine superstars Tedesco and Cordner, who would play Origin no matter how their club side was performing.

Maybe. It is too early to tell. Worse case they are solid NRL players.

Guthersons not a star in my opinion. He hasn't a skill that seperates himself from the pack.
But yes behind the star fullback he is closest to the front of pack.

Rts,turbo,teddy,Ponga being the 4 stars.

Gutherson's in the Nathan Brown category, for mine. A strong contributor mostly through quantity rather than quality. That's very important in a club side but less useful to rep teams. Neither would be out of place in Origin though. There's just better options.

Regardless, supposedly passing up 500k in total is a fair sacrifice (allegedly) ... i would say it would be quite rare

He's not passing it up....he's getting it elsewhere (i.e. via a TPA).....but through an arrangement that is in accordance with the rules.....however ordinary those rules are. Or in part he's avoiding the hassle and cost of re-locating (which might explain a difference of about 15k)

I dunno, I earn considerably less than Oates and I'd still struggle to be bothered moving to Sydney for less than $50k per year more in salary.

Sure, my threshold is about 80-100k difference to justify the move. I'd only move there is I could afford to live where I want to.

Eels outbid ... no one
It seems Parramatta were bidding against themselves for Clint Gutherson. I’ve been told that Manly pulled the pin on their offer for him on Wednesday night. Gutherson signed a three-year deal the following day.

Manly have to prioritise signing Jake and Tom Trbojevic, and that is going to cost them plenty. They still have Daly Cherry-Evans, Marty Taupau and Dylan Walker on great money. The Eagles didn’t want to jeopardise their war chest by spending too much on Gutherson.

Poor poor delusional Pou. Gutho, probably our best player, received how many offers from other clubs? None, repeat, NOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!

Yup, exactly what I've said elsewhere.

They've sacrificed depth for a handful of superstars. They have got a couple of solid value players like Liu and Tetevano too, because that's how they make up for the big names. But they've got an awful lot of plod if a big name goes down...
They have a good coach so the plod players play at a much higher standard and they still win games. Same goes for Bennett and Bellamy. Whereas we............
