As much as a disgrace Thursday was.
Brown x 2 out
MJ out
Tepai out

That is 4 of our starters. We can compete with everyone if we are full strength. But we sure aren't strong enough to compete with this many down.

I would prefer BA to give youth more of a run. Kafusi, Salmon, Stone would be my preference at this stage over these guys -
Taka,Gower,Terepo,Hoffman.
Atleast they will gain experience and improve as season unfolds.

When is Michael Jennings back. I would consider giving him the captaincy.
I would take it from Gutherson and switch Gutherson to the centres he is not good at fullback or leader.

We need a captain who can lift the team in a similar way to what Pearce is doing in Newcastle. They have a coach very similar to ours. Nice guy, players have very little respect for him. That Newcastle team has fired itself up via Pearce as leader. He is focused, hyperactive and competent. None of our "leaders" have those three. Moses is hyperactive but not focused or competent. Jennings has potential for those three.

And Gutful, you are a phoney and a liar. You boarder on Poo level acceptance and support of mediocrity and failure even when our roster should be doing a lot better.

Maybe your name means you GIVE a Gutful to others. ;)

i have a theory on our ongoing shitness over the last few weeks

maybe a lot of players who are off contract have either been told or just suspect they are not being renewed and there is no interest in them from other clubs so they are hanging in limbo trying to find a gig somewhere

whatever the reason their minds just aren't on the job and it shows

That is just plain dumb. If you were looking for a job and you were put on a stage every week to show to prospective bosses what you got...well you know the rest.

And Poo agreeing with you... well you know that definitely makes you wrong. Dis true.

They cost money.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise we were broke. Imbecile statement again Pou or do you know something our multi million dollar organisation who also get over and above the salary cap money from the NRL for the football club just like every one else.

It's what you do with it not the size.

How exactly do these things you mention fall onto the coaches?
There have been games this year where we have held the ball, tackled like demons (including locking the ball up), had great line speed in D, not been left on the ground, not lost the ruck, and have passed/offloaded like the Harlem Globetrotters and we have won those games (or even lost games like v Roosters), so the players have the ability to do all of these things.

Are you insinuating that maybe the coaching staff coach them to not do these things for certain games?
Wow!!
I think that one of the biggest sources of frustration for fans, me included, is when we can play well, and do all those things you mentioned. Yet other weeks we are poor at them. We just don't seem to be able to build on momentum like some other teams can which indicate to me that the issues are mental, not skill or desire.

Can't do much grinding if you continually lose the ball. What most disappoints is the lack of effort and our style of play. Our tackling is poor, often grabbing in tackles and not locking the ball up. Teams make easy metres as there is no speed in our D line and players are left on the ground. Because of that we always lose in the ruck. And what has happened to our attack? Our handling has been diabolical and our passing/offloading is almost non-existent. One out running will not win matches. But currently that is our state of affairs and all that falls onto the coaches.

This is exactly what has been going on. Watch the first 15 mins of the Panthers game and look carefully at their tackling versus ours. Such intent, vigour and lined speed with 3 and 4 in tackles with aggression. Ours on the other hand was scrappy, loose and without intent or aggression. We lost it there.

Defense is the key to a teams fortunes in all the other aspects of the game. Continual penalties, dropped balls and unforced errors all come from bad defense. Get that attitude right and all the other things in a game rise in standard naturally.

My point is we need to buy these merkins. It's why we (reportedly) offered huge money to Wade Graham. He would've been a great signing.

Yeah, I think it could definitely have something to do with coaching. People say the coach isn't the one out there missing tackles and doing dumb stuff and that's true. But I wonder if they can be better prepared mentally so that the dumb stuff happens less often.

No, I think he is insinuating that the coach and his staff aren't good enough to get their obvious abilities out EVERY F**KEN WEEK FOR F**K SAKE!

WOW my arse.

The thing is, teams aren't out there running around by themselves. The opposition has a bearing on how well you play, and when they're not 'on' you look a lot better. Likewise, when they're up you don't look so good. One reason our game against Penrith was so shit is because both teams were working hard in defence, and this led to a few errors. In the Cowboys game we didn't force errors (because they rarely pass the ball) but our scramble limited them to three line breaks, despite 58% possession.

Scott played 20 games for us in his first season and 17 in the next. He was fine in 2016 and most of 2017.

That's your opinion and you obviously are entitled to it, but I thought for many of the games he played for us he was shit and a passenger in some, sprinkled in with some good ones. Hardly a great signing, but definitely better then Watdick.

We have big enough bodies. Is it finding them or teaching them to be more assertive? I'd like a forward coach like Spud Carrol or Geyer who might toughen them up.

Both finding and teaching. We definitely need to find someone that can get them up for every game from an aggression point of view. We just don't have it in defense most weeks. With the exception of 2017, this coach has failed on this score badly.

He needs to get someone in who will get them primed for defense hard core. That should be his one and only focus for the remainder of the season and every season from here on in. The attack is there if he can get them tuned in defense.

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE. I want to see hard core and aggressive hunting defense in packs from the first minute to the last. Then we will win at least 90% of our games.
