In my opinion, Foran was the best signing Arthur has made. I don't care what anyone says, there was no way to predict Foran's incredible fall from grace. Arthur was really on the right track there; signing a real big name leader. We need this again. We need a REALLY big name leader for next year. Ideally, I'd like to see two origin-level forwards and a hooker (Mahony's only the answer if we want to remain a middle of the table team). As I've said before, signings for 2020 are crucial. If we don't get it right, Dylan Brown wont stick around and we'll be stuck with Moses as the main playmaker (which he cant handle). We've got enough 'budget' players who are hard-working first graders: we need two stars to ignite them.
I agree but with Mahoney we need someone to complement him. I actually think Kaysa (if he wasn't made of glass) would have been great. Mahoney will be an integral part of this side for a while to come.

We definitely need some mentally tough hard heads though. BA has, to his credit, tried this before with Watmough and Scott and needs to again for next season.

I was at the game and never did I at any point feel like we would lose the game.
We should have won by more had it not been for some atrocious refereeing decisions.
I don't like to use the refs as an excuse but they were very poor last night.
For all we know you could have been the ref there...........Badger.

My gut feeling is Schneider will end up above him. Unsure why.

Mahoney is ok. Seems to tackle a lot but not a lot of spark running the ball.
Its because we have the slowest play the ball in the known universe. Did you see Guthos first effort last night? I went for a coffee and he was still laying there when I got back. I think only Sivo regularly fights to get to his feet.

His running game has suffered a bit, it's true.

And, imo, Schneider is a better all around player.

But I think Mahoney has shown glimpses of class - he has already set up tries with his running game, and his passing game is excellent.

He also has a handy kicking game.

Let's not forget he is only 21, and he is playing his first full season of First Grade.

I reckon young Reed is doing just fine.

I hate to think I'm getting carried away, but I honestly think Mahoney has been our best rake since Kingston in 09, and even KK was only playing 30-40 minutes back then. Reed is playing 80, has shown a kicking game, misses f all tackles but best of all, never over plays his hand. FFS, I watched Cameron King try and score (unsuccessfully) a try every freaking time we had the ball inside an oppositions 10 and it drove me barmy. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say Reed has already had a better NRL career than King and Kaysa already. He might yet fall off a cliff form wise but right now, he has a game that is suited to the rigours of NRL...

My only worry with Mahoney is four times this season (I think) now he has been trampled on our line in the act of an opposition try later in the game.

For a guy who allegedly leads our line speed he just does not get off the goal line.

He'll be a very good hooker despite what one old prick on here seems to think, but I'm worried we're relying on him too much and I think we need to identify a few games where McIlwrick is on the bench and gives him a rest.

Gutho needs to work on his defense. Ive been drilled for pointing it out before but I reckon its borderline poor. I even reckon French defense just as well.

Completely agree. We need McIllwrick or whoever BA chooses to deputise for him even if its for 20 - 25 mins. This should allow Reed to have the energy to make the incisive runs we all know he is capable of.

I totally agree.

McIllwrick would be a good option to give Reed a rest.

McIllwrick also has more experience.

But Mahoney is the best hooker we have had in ages.

If Mahoney gets isolated on the try line, means one of the 3 middle forwards or markers (if we even have any being close to the line) aren’t doing their job, no hooker is going to stop a middle forward one on one 1 m or so from the try line.

Additionally leading line speed on the try line is difficult, if he leads it by himself he leaves a hole in the line.
