He has played 21,21,22,23 and 21 games over the last 5 seasons. He would also have missed games due to origin. So doesn’t seem to injury prone.
Its Dragoons doing damage control so when he leaves, they can say, well we didn't want him anyway. Best indication yet that he is on his way out imo.

I reckon Welch is a better fit for side then Evans who is off contract in 2020.

Depending on our cap position for 2020, if we have some free space I reckon he could be a decent gamble for the right price.

Something like, offer to buy his storm contract at 2/3 of its valve (so assuming he may be on $350 - $400k, we play $230-250k) and give him a second year option on $350-400k in our favour (we were offering $500k).

Worse case scenario we waste $250k or so on an player that sits out the year injured or fails to return to form. And we don’t take up the option,

Best case scenario he returns to fairly decent form mid year and we have a player on unders in 2021.

I wouId actually tell peni he is free to leave so we could save some cap space for Welch. Obviously all subject to him progressing well with his ACL injury. Also the storm/Welch may say no too.

It’s probably one of our better chances of getting “leader” type forward into our squad without paying a huge amount.
But why would Welch agree to that? It puts him in a worse situation than he is now.

Not really/maybe, he still gets his 2020 contract at the full amount and just needs to perform at a reasonable level to get a 2021 contract.

Looks like he is being pushed out of he storm no matter what, so he can make the more now rather then wait.

But he only has to perform at a reasonable level and he'll have multiple offers, probably for much more than $350K. An option in the club's favour is worse for a player than no option at all. An option in the club's favour for much less than you would expect to make is terrible for the player.

Fair enough, maybe then no option then and just a 2 year deal with the second year at around $400k.

Yes I know, but he has been injured and down on form this year at times and he is one of these players that seems to always get injured but the majority of the time he just plays through it. That is fine to an extent but as you get older it starts to catch up on you. Some of those games that he has played each year he played them injured and sometimes it worked and other times it didn't.

All I am saying is that I would be very happy to have him at Parra, he is an exceptional player and exactly the type we need, but I am just concerned that we maybe getting him at the wrong end of his career and yes I know he is still young, so maybe the better option would be Matterson if we could only have one.

I almost wrote the same thing word for word.

There is a few clubs after GL, think he's played his last game for us

His attack is good but too many weaknesses. He used to carve up at 20s level. In NSW cup he seems to be handled a lot easier. I am unsure he will even have an impact at the NRL...

Just wondering who you are asking these questions to and whether you actually expect anyone on here to know the answer accurately and if they did, be prepared to share it in a public forum?

Geez I guess I was just asking because I was excited and thought I may have missed something. Or some ppl had some theories. I wasn’t expecting anyone to release state secrets.
