Cayless also failed to make the top 8 (in a 12 team comp) this year with the Warriors reserve grade team.
Which means what ? That the squad he was given at Wenty of mostly part timers does not define his abilities ? Or Trent Robinson has NFI ?

It means what he achieved at Wenty is pretty similar to what he achieved at the Warriors.

They get on well. Also could be that maybe Cayless could make an ok assistant but is not a head coach’s arsehole.
I don't think anyone has suggested that he could land a head coach gig, including his Mum.

Well left. So why did Trent Robinson sign him ya think ?
Maybe Trent thinks it's a way to try and entice Dylan Brown to Bondi given Cayless has a history with young Dylbags.... We know the club Cayless was last involved with approached Brown, albeit illegally. This time tomorrow there's nothing stopping him making an even more audacious approach and this time the $$'s would likely surpass anything the Warriors were offering.... Uncle Nick has deep pockets....

Nepotism. They are mates and used to play together.
Robinson was at the Eels for one season in 2002 and played one FG game.

I'd say he must be a good coach, communicator, role model. He would certainly fit Robinson's good character test that he seemingly applies to the people that work in his inner sanctum.

Not saying that he should be at the Eels, but clearly he is better than his results in 2018 suggest.

Is Ricky Stuart better than his 2013 results suggest? Judging a coach on a single season is stupid. Robinson won six games in 2016, the same as Arthur last year. If it had occurred in either coach's first year in the NRL they might never have gotten another chance.

Cayless wouldn't make a good coach cause he just wouldn't have the tactics.
But he might bring other things that make him a good 2IC.

I reckon the smartest and hardest part of being a coach is knowing what juniors to retain , what players to recruit and what current player to sign up. Once your cards are dealt and you have your squad the game plans are fairly simmilar for all sides. Injuries and luck will play the biggest role on what you will produce.

Phil Economidis, Paul Langmack and Craig Coleman were destined to be greats but were made scapegoats. I’m sure if they had the right players and Roosters TPA’s they would still be coaching today.

RL is a cruel sport.

Cayless was a loser at NRL level. Was gifted a WC due to Sticky’s incompetence.

The Wests Tigers will have a $1.7 million war chest for next season with the NRL approving the medical retirement of Kiwi international Ben Matulino and the club agreeing to release Ryan Matterson effective immediately.

In a huge coup for the Tigers, the club will have $1.7 million to spend on improving their roster for premiership-winning coach Michael Maguire next year.

The timing is perfect with November 1 ticking over on Friday and players off contract for 2021 all free agents.

The Matterson issue has been resolved with the Tigers agreeing to cut ties after being unable to negotiate any player trades with rival NRL clubs.

The Parramatta Eels have also tabled an three-year $1.6 million deal for Matterson in the last 24 hours with the club hopeful of landing his signature.

Coupled with Matterson’s money and the release of Kiwi Test centre Esarn Masters to the North Queensland Cowboys and for the first time since ex-coach Cleary signed at the club the Tigers have money in their salary cap.

The Tigers are targeting Gold Coast duo Jai Arrow and AJ Brimson and are also in talks with Dragons backrower Luciano Leilua.
