He's family mate. Why so savage ? Did he shag your sister ?
Whats so savage about the truth?? He was a fine servant for the club but hardly a great player or leader. And when the big games rolled around he went MIA. He wasn’t a pimple on Hindy’s arse.

Nobody is saying he was better than anyone else, but he played 260+ games for us, captained our club and played for his country 40 times over a decade. Some merkins around here treat him like he was Justin Tsoulos. Curious to know why TBH.

He featured in some great wins for NZ vs AU and GB. He and his bro tore us a new one in this game.

I couldn’t care less what he did for NZ, that’s irrelevant.

I only care what he produced for Parra, he played a lot of games about 2 seasons too many. He was always on top dollar even though his form didn’t warrant that sort of money. But but but he was a great leader, was he really?? In big games for us the only time you noticed him was when he would drop a ball under pressure. As I said a fine first grader but hardly an all time great. We kept the wrong brother.

Hindmarsh played 2 seasons too many also. Cayless played about 4 to many.
Many will argue but its fact.

The Wests Tigers will have a $1.7 million war chest for next season with the NRL approving the medical retirement of Kiwi international Ben Matulino and the club agreeing to release Ryan Matterson effective immediately.

In a huge coup for the Tigers, the club will have $1.7 million to spend on improving their roster for premiership-winning coach Michael Maguire next year.

The timing is perfect with November 1 ticking over on Friday and players off contract for 2021 all free agents.

The Matterson issue has been resolved with the Tigers agreeing to cut ties after being unable to negotiate any player trades with rival NRL clubs.

The Parramatta Eels have also tabled an three-year $1.6 million deal for Matterson in the last 24 hours with the club hopeful of landing his signature.

Coupled with Matterson’s money and the release of Kiwi Test centre Esarn Masters to the North Queensland Cowboys and for the first time since ex-coach Cleary signed at the club the Tigers have money in their salary cap.

The Tigers are targeting Gold Coast duo Jai Arrow and AJ Brimson and are also in talks with Dragons backrower Luciano Leilua.

Hopefully we get Matto, his a perfect replacement for Ma'u

Phil Economidis, Paul Langmack and Craig Coleman were destined to be greats but were made scapegoats. I’m sure if they had the right players and Roosters TPA’s they would still be coaching today.

RL is a cruel sport.
Well the fact is you don't know how they would've gone. They got their opportunity for a reason and then they stopped getting opportunities for other reasons. The fact they only coached at struggling clubs showed they were never held in high regard as coaches, so they were never "destined to be greats" as you claim. What a dumb statement.

What exactly is a war chest anyhow?
How much must one have to acquire a war chest.
Wouldn't all 16 clubs have one if we where talking about 2 or 3 seasons away?
Exactly. Most clubs would have well over a million to spend for 2021. Plenty of clubs would have $2M+

Isn't that what you complained people were criticising him for? His ability as head coach of Wenty.
Coaching a lower grade team isn't the same as being head coach of an NRL club any more than coaching a rep team is. They are wildly different roles, and require different skills. Failure or success in one won't predict performance in the other.

He did, but he carried the team for so long he probably deserved those last couple of years. But but but Caylo was a fantastic leader :joy:.

Are there many successful first grade coaches that demonstrated repeated failure with no success (in terms of making finals) in lower grades?
