Rumours and Stuff

Are there many successful first grade coaches that demonstrated repeated failure with no success (in terms of making finals) in lower grades?

Well, the available sample is reduced by the fact that several never coached lower grade in this country, e.g. Seibold, Bennett, Trent Robinson.

Ricky Stuart might well be one.

I dunno, I don't really care about lower grade coaching. These days being an assistant coach at an NRL club is the preliminary step to a head coaching job.

If you've been coaching lower grades long enough to have any sort of extensive record you're probably off the radar for a spot on an NRL coaching staff.

Ricky Stuart won jersey flegg with the Dogs in 2001. I'd consider a lower grade premiership success

Yep. At least you recognise that he experienced success. And in an age group competition a good chunk of players move on each year. The team changes.

That's true. It was fortunate that he had Thurston and Asotasi (the pool boys) and the original Matt Utai before those Newcastle Clowns stole his name.

But my main point was that lower grades aren't necessarily the main channel to NRL coaching these days.

Well the fact is you don't know how they would've gone. They got their opportunity for a reason and then they stopped getting opportunities for other reasons. The fact they only coached at struggling clubs showed they were never held in high regard as coaches, so they were never "destined to be greats" as you claim. What a dumb statement.
Pumping up Stephen Kearney was more dumb. How’s he going for you?

Get your own f**ken line!

And while you are getting one, grab those crowd figures while you’re there

I started the crowd line in 2010. I remember cause it was after we lost 10 - 6 to Brisbane. Cayless was Captain and we had by memory 15,929 there. Haynes was the try scorer and Humble played in the halves. Look I could be wrong. Was a long time ago and mum memory isn't the greatest. But I remember coming on here making a crowd comment after that game.
