*SPOILER ALERT* Lost the game I am pretty sure. We beat them late in the season at Belmore, but I am almost certain we lost to them at home early in the season. So unless we played them earlier than round 10, this is probably that home loss.
I think they best us quite easily if I remember.

I was also at that game. I remember merkins leaving early when it became apparent we would lose. I hate it when merkins do that. Good crowd of around 25, 000 iirc

3 Sterling
2 Bugden
1 Taylor

-1 Price. No discipline.

We should sign Jeff Fenech.
No spirit. We need a coach who can fire up the troops. How long is Monie signed up for.

The only reason we tend to get tries is when defense is tired. If it was fresh I dont think it matters how good your attack is.Less points.
If only could sub 1 player and that being the halfback it takes away his skill of planning under fatigue. This is a skill in itself.
People bag Nathan Cleary. But one thing he does is have a cool head. And continues to make good decisions. Of course Moses is superior in attack. But he does lose his head from time to time when pressure is on and fatigue has set in. This is where mental toughness comes in.

I reckon this years Grand final was one of the best. I don't recall many tries. The defense was great from both sides

My opinion (based on my observations) is that fatigue is not a factor in the game anymore and I don't think it is coming back. Defenses are just too organised now and sports science training has everyone so fit and well prepared.

If fatigue ever was the source of opportunity for attack I am of the opinion we need to look at new things like reducing the number of players on the field or otherwise trying to break up that dominant straight line of defense.

I also think the main thing that has led to attack drying up is that attacking teams don't take risks and ask questions anymore. It is just much easier to take the 7 or 8 easy metres and kick for the corner.

Attacking now is about trying to get a fast play the ball and getting penalties.

The solution in my opinion is not to try to bring fatigue back but to try to get it so that the game is ahead of the coaches in terms of what you have to do in defense. The coaches are just so on top of the game in that regard. The ten metre rule has had its day.

The ten metre rule is the biggest cause of the way tactics have evolved. It's now all about ruck speed - the defence desperately trying to get their line reset after every tackle and the attack trying to play the ball before the defence is ready. All this puts a greater burden on the referees.

A better solution would be to shorten the ten metres. Maybe even bring back a rugby union style defensive line in line with the ruck. The only way to create space is to remove merkins from the field. Nine a side has already proven to be the right amount, imo. Finally, reducing the number of tackles from six (to something less than six) will reduce the number of nothing settlers used - when teams use the ball they're mostly using it late in the tackle count. Reducing the number of tackles means a higher proportion of total plays will occur 'late in the count'.

I don't know if fatigue leads to a better game but I don't share the belief that it can't be reintroduced. There is a limit to how hard people can push themselves and for how long. Fewer breaks in play, less interchange and even making the game longer are some ways you can do it. Change the rules so that delaying tactics are more costly. Maybe just change the rules every couple of weeks so that coaches can never get on top of it.
