So you want to sub out the halves on defence, who will no doubt be replaced by much better defending players therefore making it even harder to score?
It's not about how hard it is to score, it's about the types of players required to play both attack and defence.

Obviously allowing defensive specialists will improve defences. This is why there needs to be fewer players on the field.

The brilliant evolution of QB play over the last 15 years (especially the last 4 years) is a big tick in the box of allowing your bums on seats (skills that pay the bills) players to focus solely on their craft and also have no back up skills that can save their bacon.
If QBs also had to play defense I think they would all be the same proto type player.

You obviously like the NFL (in particular offense) and touch football. I and I think the majority don’t want rugby league to be anything like those sports. If we did then NFL and touch would be more than just niche sports over here (and this is coming from someone that has played many years of touch football).

The 9s are fun and so is 7s rugby. No one cares about the long term results of either because they are a novelty.

100%, I agree.

I love NFL, but I love NRL more - players such as Regan Campbell-Gillard, Boyd Cordner, etc. who can attack, and defend, are way more exciting to watch, imo, than Lamar Jackson.

Yes, Lamar can pass, and he can run - but he won't ever force a game-winning fumble, or snatch a Super Bowl-winning interception.

Defence is a pivotal part of sport, and I, for one, love watching strong defence.

I understand T-Boon's desire to see more creative plays come from halves, but I would say we already have a pretty daring and creative halfback.

Off the top of my head, in the last two seasons, Moses has regularly:

* grubbered for himself

* thrown no-look passes back for his inside support runners

* tapped and ran himself after a 20m restart

* tried chip and chases for Gutherson

* run the ball on the last

* gone down the short side on the last.

Mitchell Moses is a very exciting player to watch, imo, and I am stoked he is an Eel.

I actually prefer college football to NFL and I prefer watching defense than offence.

There is a lot of play making and great strategy in gridiron defense. It is great to watch because it is hard unlike NRL defense which is a straight line of parked bus.

I just spat out coffee that I drank 12 hours ago.
You are kidding right?

Lol you obviously have no idea how much work goes into defence in rugby league.

I am sure they drill wrestling etc for many hours. But most of them just stand in straight line, don’t have to think about what is coming as it’s the same every set and they wait for the player to come to them.

I suggest you get to a 1st grade training session because what you have described is not at all how teams organize their defences. In the 1980s maybe but not today.

The reason some sports resonate more than others is just inertia. Things end up important just because they've been around so long. Then the people who like them resist change while continuing to whinge about the bits they don't like.

The rugby codes and American football were novelties once as well. How about the NBA? Basketball started as a way for gridiron players to stay active in the off season.

The problem is that there are too few players like Moses in the game.

Well that's what I read. You obviously read something different. At least we agree basketball was once a novelty but now people care about it.

I think Dr Neismith invented it from scratch to entertain a bunch of people he was going to be looking after over the winter.
