I'm not sure Jamie Lyon's contract release was mutually agreed.

Like any negotiation, no one party gets everything they want but there is a set of agreed terms that fall out of the process.

The contract was used to reach an arrangement whereby Parra said, "if you aren't going to play for us then you won't be playing for someone else in the NRL". It offered us protection in that instance. If there was no contract he would have gone straight to Manly.

I understand that it's still a shit situation. However, when player and club fall out that badly the best you can hope for is that you dont get completely stitched up (either as player or as club). That's why contracts are important - they force a player and club to agree on the terms of a player's release.

They are never broken, as many have said they stakeholders sometimes negotiate a compromise.

I noticed that you didn't include Gordon Tallis in your comprehensive list. He sat out a year with STG when he wanted to go to the Broncos.

At the end of the day, st George signed Tallis to play league, not to sit out In the grandstands. The contract couldn’t make Tallis play. But it did stop him signing elsewhere.
