I have posted this before, but I think we should be seriously looking at Tolutau Koula from Manly. He is rated one of the best juniors from either Rugby League or Rugby. He is only 18 years old and just out of school and ear marked for great things. He was elevated to the top 30 this last off season and did his first preseason with the NRL squad.

He was the quickest player at the Sea Eagles till Saab arrived but he is lightning too. He broke the AAGPS Athletics Carnival Open Championship 100m record in a time of 10.58s at Sydney Olympic Park in 2019.

He is signed up with Manly till 2022, but that means we can offer him a contract from November this year. If Manly don't jump in and give him an extension like they did with X. Savage then we would be mad not to have a good hard crack at him. Manly have a very settled backline now so it may be a couple of years before this kid gets a look in with them. If we offered him a decent amount and the opportunity to be fast tracked into first grade as a carrot with a very good team, then who knows?

But we really do need that X factor(speed) in our team. He would do the trick nicely. I would stop with all these other fill in and depth signings that we are trying to make happen like A. Woods and the Milf if they are more then just for this season and try to get a kid like this who has unbelievable upside and potential. BTW Milf to me has lost a metre or two in instant acceleration, which is where the great ones do all the damage. He is a renowned bad trainer, so I would suggest he has brought that on himself.

Anyway, can someone like @Avenger please ask our club to take a serious look at this kid? He is the next real speedster star on the horizon. If we can get in early, we may have a chance to convince him that Parradise is where former Manly players can come to make their home, fortune and love this club, just like King Gutho has.

Xavier Savage's NRL career could've looked very different to how it has panned out so far.

Savage starred for the Green Machine against the Titans on Saturday night but according to Triple M's news breaker Brent Read the teenager was actually shopped around the NRL just weeks ago.

Double blow for Raiders

Canberra is expected to cop a double injury blow with star five-eighth Jack Wighton and young gun Xavier Savage unlikely to be fit in time for Thursday night’s crucial clash against Parramatta.

Wighton battled on bravely in the win over Cronulla after suffering a very painful rib cartilage injury but he is likely to be ruled out of contention to take on the Eels.

Speed sensation Savage is also likely to be ruled out with a shoulder injury.

They pay $100k, frees up $150k to front load an extension to someone they want to keep, or bring someone like Billy Walters who they have signed for next year over now
Would we seriously pay him $150k for 3 months (the equivalent of $600k per season)?

Would we even have that much available??

If he plays 14 it could work. Bit of an x-factor in attack. But then we signed Cartwright for a similar reason and BA hardly uses him anymore, which I really don't get. I would rather sign a centre to replace Waqa, who apparently has lots of speed and agility but never makes a break.

WSmith brings cover for hooker at 14.

Would you want Milford covering Rheed and defending in the middle?

Although I 'spose you can never have too many fat middles.

It's a lot more than the 25-30k you'd pay for three months of minimum wage
That's true but if we have it in the salary cap why not spend it? And I'd rather put it towards a guy like Milford than a minimum wage player who will be no chance to play first grade.

Sure, but if we have that money left in the cap, we could also burn it up front extending the likes of Oppa, or Cartwright or whoever else we have we wanna keep.

Honestly if we were signing Milford on money that represented his current value for the rest of the season and into next year, I wouldn't be against it. He could at least potentially be an upgrade on Will Smith, and give us cover for halves if we needed it.

But I really don't see him turning his game around over a coupla of weeks and being a plus over what we already have. To put it in perspective, he's not getting a start at the f**king Donkeys, because he hasn't performed enough for them to offset the benefit of giving their other halves experience over his performance. I think a lot of that is down to him playing with no f**king heart at all, and that has shown in his defence, it's been last year Darius type woeful.

Give him an off season, six months or so for BA to get around to talking to him, and maybe he could provide some value, he certainly has the skillset, but I don't see the mindset, which could improve with a change of scenery, but not literally overnight.

Yep my thinking is that I prefer him to Will Smith. I think that Milford just doesn't have 80minutes of good football in him. Short bursts might be his thing. He's probably kicking stones at the Broncos because he knows he's not wanted. If we show him some love, ie. tell him we want him, it might be the kick he needs. Maybe.

Kicking stones when you're needing another contract says you're just not in the right head space.

I just don't think that turns around like magic, but hey, who f**king knows, there's always maybe.

Milford could play for next to f**k all if he thinks it gives him a chance to show he still has something to offer. ... he can choose to pass up some of the $s owed to him if he thinks its worth it.

And we have nothing to lose if we have no one better to spend whatever we have left under the cap. We just keep playing our current players instead.

BA masterstroke take away the scapegoat criticism from moses at end of year and blame milford. There were some smart arse comments on social media today taking potshots at moses that milford has won more finals games. Which is true but also means nothing really atm because Milford probably couldn't win a game when his career depended on it recently.

I really dont think milford will make much a difference at the end of the day even as a 14. Going off BA rotations its generally a token 5 stint anyway.

It is pleasing though the club are looking at possible options of improving the squad and are not just resting on their laurels thinking what we have is good enough

I like the possible Milford signing. He's been surrounded by lazy plonkers at Brisbane and has been asked to be a match winner. Put him in a better squad where he doesn't have the same pressure and I think he'll do well. Need to put him on the tackling bags though.

Aaron Woods is on the hunt for a new club after being informed by the Sharks that he won’t be offered a new deal for next year, but the 30-year-old could exit the club earlier than expected.

It was revealed last week that the Manly Sea Eagles and Parramatta Eels were considering offering Woods a deal for an immediate switch.

However, The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield is reporting, premiership heavyweights, Melbourne, are also eyeing the former Kangaroos forward.

“I heard that Manly and Melbourne Storm were keen on signing him for the rest of the year. This was only a week ago,” Rothfield told Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast.

“Woodsy has never won a premiership and I haven’t confirmed it with the Melbourne Storm but imagine the chance to go and finish the season with the Storm and put a ring on your finger at the end of the year.”
