I predicted Melbourne/Penrith/Souths would be top three. The next tier would be us, Canberra and the Roosters (because they are old and would have a lot of merkins unavailable through the year). I didn't predict Manly would be so good. I'm still waiting for the wheels to fall off.

Nobody expected Turbo to go to this level. He is great but now gone too best player I've seen status.
Add the development of Schuster, Foran settling in and that 2nd rower exploding onto the scene. I do not see any reason for them to drop off.

We did not need to resign him. I think by rumours we coughed up close to 600k. He is a 400k player in my books. He still is a better then average NRL player. Just perhaps on slightly overs.

I'd prefer Matterson at lock and Brown come off bench.

I liked how we negotiated with Nrown. He definitely took a pay cut. I reckon he's on about $450k

The biggest issue in our pack is Nathan Brown. f**k he has become bog average. Problem is nobody wants him at the price he thinks he's worth.

Nrown gets the ball to deep, so defence moves up to quick on him. So gets “smashed” to often.

He needs to get the ball in “flatter” position.

Additionally we aren’t using his passing game enough (which is very good). He is very willing to get “smashed”. And has good speed.

Thus we should using him more as a “middle” half (like radley/jake/Hodgson etc etc). Like get him the ball not as deep, then let him “dig” into the line (or sweep play), then pass to a half hitting a edge player. This will give Gutho more room (he never has any room) and straighten our attack up a lot more.

plus Nrown has pretty good line speed.

On Drown (who just turned 21), let’s not forget plenty questioned Mahoney’s attacking ability last year and thought he had peaked (at only 22). Yet improved massively after an off-season (at 23)…..

however I do think a gutho / Drown position switch could be option next year….

I'd agree that we don't have the team to win the comp compared to Melbourne, etc., but I wouldn't say that we don't have the squad to at least get closer to winning the in the next couple of years.

Team and Squad though are not one and the same. There is a big difference between not having the team that is capable, but having a squad that is capable. Admittedly, we would probably need a couple of additions to the squad to go to that next level, but the team needs significant improvements to get there.

The way that the team performs is not just down the squad of players.

I like Brown, if had more players that run with his aggression we’d be better off. He’s probably the only decent ball playing forward we have. He’s the only one that can put a player through a hole. I don’t get why though the coaches sometimes put him at second receiver in attack. It does not make sense and is a reflection of our shit shit shit coaching staff.

Matterson has been a dud signing. He’s lost his ball playing ability. Dylan Brown, ONE TRY ASSIST FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. See ya later Dylan, you’ve got a better game in the cubicle

Also on our attack, we should stop using Paulo in our “sweep” plays. We have other players who can do that and it’s wastes Paulo greatest strength size / offload.

we should be getting Paulo to run straight (as 2nd / 3nd hit as it’s generally winger / RCG / someone else doing first ones.), with an offload where possible. And sometimes passing at the line, not getting involved in sweep plays.

It will also straighten our attack up.

He rarely gets the ball in a good position, like off a quick play the ball. Additionally our attack is to sideward at times.

how often does matterson get put in a one on one position with the opposition…..hardly ever

I too think some favourites need to leave. For example I'd be letting matterson go and going all out for Brandon Smith and keeping Shaun Lane who does a similar job to Matterson at a fraction of the price.

Avenger, I understand he might be a good player, but I would hate to see that grub in blue and gold.
