I believe Gutho took "unders" because no other club was willing to higher than what we offered. He was quite entitled to tell us to get f**ked and that he would not be signing for "unders" and then go and sign for another club but of course, that would have meant risking playing for nobody or taking a lower salary elsewhere. As @Poupou Escobar often points out, a players market value is determined by what a club is willing to pay for them, not some made up value in the head of the player or their agent. Guthos market value last contract was 750K (assuming that's accurate). Simple.

His manager also needs to be reminded that the cap is now lower than it was when they last negotiated. He also has not led us to any significant improvement in terms of our premiership aspirations so by rights, I think we should be offering something similar to last deal. If he believes he's worth 7 figures per year then by all means have at it Gutho.

I'd offer 750K, and ask for last right of refusal. If someone Trump's 750 with a deal of 950K+ then yeah, it's Adios from me....

I'd say we're definitely paying a leadership tax (as does every club for their leaders), so to be worth what he's getting he needs to lead well. After Fogarty he would be the least experienced captain in the NRL.

Cant help but feel like people are being overly critical of Gutho, hes got 10+ tries and assists and does great defensive work, especially having to cover the outside spuds like Sivo, Waqa, Blake, etc. However I can agree hes not worth a million.
