Being that there was no NSW cup and under 20s most of the year I thought a little mini 8 week comp would of been a good idea commencing around mid October where teams can use NSW cup and under 20s players in a side.

They should bring back a proper pre season cup for young players at the under 21's level and incorporate the indigenous and Pacific Islander teams. Play the games around regional NSW and QLD. It would be massive.

We should be signing Benji Marshall on a one year deal. Ultimate professional and would do wonders for Dylan Brown. I’d be putting him on as our permanent 14 for season 2022.

I think that birdy has flown after today.

Would have been great if we had done it a any stage of his career though. Having someone of his calibre being part of our club can only be a good thing on and off the field and the press box.

Well if we are looking to shore up our Hooker stocks then after watching the Wynnum Manly vs Tweed game today, we could do a lot worse then Jayden Berrell, who was also voted the QLD player of the year I believe.

He is a very strong defender and great runner of the ball and I'm sure would be very cheap if we gave him an opportunity with us. He is 26 years old and would have a good 3-5 years of understudy in him. Perfect for what we would need of him.

What about Brad Deitz from the Bulldogs? He is off contract. He debuted this year and was injured before covid hit and didn't get a run after that due to the rest of the team being in the bubble on the Gold Coast.

Can't help thinking that 2021 was a missed opportunity. Hopefully our luck changes in 2022. I reckon we will make the GF. Many teams getting weaker whilst we have the same side. Need to shore up the players that we want to re-sign and hopefully make a call on BA, I suspect he will gain an extension prior to season kickoff.

Also aren't we due for a jersey change? One thing I'd like to see is a new high profile sponsor. Our major sponsor is underwhelming.

I don’t think there will be any changes to the jersey other than a couple of minor subtle ones. Aland’s sponsorship was only recently extended. I have never understood why we can’t attract a big name as a major sponsor. With the number of members and the popularity of the side around the county I’m surprised that a known corporate entity wouldn’t want to join as sponsors. The last big name sponsor we had was ASICS back in the late 90s early 00s.

It does suck that we haven't got a big name sponsor but we aren't the only club without a one. Warriors, Broncos, Cowboys and Sharks have all landed global companies. Dragons and Roosters have decent sized sponsors but the name association alone for both of those makes it a no-brainer. Knights have a pretty well known sponsor but NIB have a direct association with the city of Newcastle so also a no-brainer.

We are there with the rest of the pack... Neds, RedZed, Laundy Hotels, Brydens Lawyers, URM, Oak Milk, Canberra Milk, Aqualand and Aland. None of these are really 'big names'?

Rugby league is seen as working class and even most working class people don't want to be seen as working class these days (look at Avenger with all his watches, for example). It makes it hard for marketers to justify associating their brand with footy clubs, especially if they have national/international aspirations.

Yea I don’t see the fascination with a big name sponsor. We sell the front of the jersey. If we are selling it to ALAND for X amount why would say Commonwealth bank pay more for the same thing? Big companies are not idiots or going to give away cash for the sake of it.

Exactly. How much would Nike (for example) pay to sponsor us? Or would they instead charge us to make our jerseys?

I dare say Aland gets more out of associating their brand with ours than would the Commonwealth Bank, so they should be able to justify paying more.

From our perspective, our brand would be better served by having a bank on front of jersey, but at the moment we need cash more than prestige.
