Inside the player negotiations that have brought Eels to a standstill

"The Sydney Roosters took a similar leap of faith in 2018 when they moved on club favourite for Mitchell Pearce for Cooper Cronk, a sacrifice which yielded back-to-back premierships."

Does he not remember they somehow found the cap space for Tedesco at the same time they brought in Cronk? It wasn't just a Pearce/Cronk straight swap. It was Pearce and nine nuffies swapped for Tedesco, Cronk and eight nuffies between 2017 and 2018.

Otherwise a pretty good article

Anyone who dosent like Yellowstone should be driven to the train station immediately.

I watched the first episode/pilot last night. Not bad...pretty good actually and very well produced. A bit like a cross between Longmire, Deadwood, Billions and Home and Away. I was disappointed that there were no African-Americans in it. Plenty of Washington Football Teams though.

What shits me on here is people who don't want to lose juniors but don't want to pay overs for experienced guys. But also don't want to lose experienced guys?
So what is your solutions? We either pay RCG what he wants and lose some future kids or let him walk and keep our salary cap in check.

Nobody has mentioned to give RCG what he wants. What’s being said is that he’ll be a huge loss and not sure anyone currently in our squad is capable of coming close to replacing him. Sure we could upgrade kafusi and Grieg, and they can share a spot throughout the season, but would that be the same as what we currently have?

Yep, if RCG wants elite money after he’s 30 good luck if he can get it. My point was he’s just not so easy to replace and promoting a couple of juniors just won’t get it done.

With our current style of bash and barge power game our forward pack is very important and the reason we stayed in so many games this year.

Keep watching it gets better, it’s the best thing Costner has done in decades.

The Panthers lost RCG a couple of years ago and then lost Tamou last year. The players they kept had done f**k all compared to those two, but they backed them to improve. That's how you build a club. You let them go a year too soon rather than a year too late. 2021 RCG might be hard to replace but 2023 RCG could turn out to be a player we wished we'd never kept. It's like you think players never get any better or worse each year.
Do the Panthers rely on the power game and chasing the collision like we do?? They showed in the finals they can win a few different ways. Unlike us, it’s a power game with block plays, crash balls and the ball out the back to Guth or bust. And as usual we busted in week 2.

But we would have 500k to spend. That gets you a very good player. We had good value from RCG currently. But look at Ferguson. Over his 3yrs on 500k. Year one he was well worth it but the following 2 seasons he was worth maybe 250k-300k. The rooster pulled the pin on him due to being a risk. Right call.
People can argue all want but 500k should get you one of the best wingers going around. Atleast top 5 or 6. We did get that year 1 and then not close.

So between the two that's 1 mill. We could always get a top shelf prop for 750k who will be as good as RCG and then find a winger for 250k. We would be at same spot as right now.

There is something wrong with our system if we are arguing about player movements and rosters for 2023 and this is only 2021.

I know it's been said before but how can a player have his mind fully on the job next year when he knows he won't be here the year after.

No sir, I don't like it.

People in all industries change jobs and some know about it weeks and months in advance and for someone with a less results orientated role, having their mind fully on the job may be difficult.

However I work with a lot of contractors who are engaged to do a specific role and to deliver certain results, and I must say even though they know they are leaving at the end of that contract, I rarely see anyone who isn't committed to doing a quality job while there.

I see first grade footballers in the same way, underperforming while still contracted to club X is not so good for the reputation and sticks with you. It impacts your future earning potential if you fail to put in and deliver.

To be fair, an actor is only as good as the screenplay and the guy that glues it together. I don't think that KC is a bad actor (Field of Dreams, Untouchables, JFK) he just has poor judgement or a low bank balance.

More of the same I guess re: recruitment for 2023.

Ponga ? Glad someone listened to me. We need a GOAT. So Dylan needs to improve by 500% or we sign Ponga.

Fergo had an awesome first year and very very good last last. It could be argued his average second year was due to waqa Blake and limited opportunities from him.

We could spend a million on a prop, he’d still have large shoes to fill. That’s how good RCG has been
