You don't know our initial offer or our current offer. None of us do. Media speculation over values is worthless other than to stir up deadshits like yourself.
It’s hilarious the king of mediocrity is calling anyone else a deadshit, it’s true I am a deadshit but glass houses and all……….

Yep, when re-signs for $400k, we will get better value out of him, then the $650k you paid for papa….
Yep, because Matto has a long history of signing for unders and not inflating his own importance and value. Such a humble, self aware young man. On the plus side, Matto is only one head knock away from medical retirement so that adds some flexibility.

Losing Marata / Papa is disappointing. But looks like we needed something close to $600k to re-sign them.

Anyhow I reckon Mahoney then Drown are the most important to keep (maybe on overs but not stupid money). Both are young and are spine players. Hard to replace. Followed by Paulo then Gutho. Keeping Kaufusi wouId be good too.

The rest are replaceable, however.

In general, the “forwards” role is pretty simple and there is a lot available each year. If you have a good culture / structure, it’s easier to bring in a cheap forward and get them playing above their value. Storm and Roosters do this. And Bennett coached sides too.

We have lost 2 forwards which we developed and got great value out of.

now we have to find the next cheap forward.

Interestingly it looks like we have some potential project players training with the NRL squad during the offseason:

obviously Rodwell / Maka / Grieg
But also Elie El-Zakhem, Tom Ale, Grant Taulafo. And juniors Yates, Caleb Tohi, Peter Taateo.

Plus we also have the roosters signing Moretti and Jock Brazel

If you have a player on “unders” then there’s a strong risk that you’ll lose them next contract and the greater the unders like on Papali’i’s case, the greater the risk. Simples, no blame either side, just set of circumstances that meant we couldn’t value him as highly as Wigers

Certainly means our Head of Football has some pressure on him, not good to lose players that have developed in your system. MON needs a plan to replace them, and then wonder why his negotiations skills didn’t cut it.

Havent lose anyone to the Dolphins who have had some say in inflating contracts, but losing someone to the Tigers ( particularly after Stefano) doesn’t feel right.

having players sign with another with a year to go on their contract is just f**ked and needs to change
Does this happen in european soccer or NBA, NFL NHL ? Seems crazy that someone signs for the year after next.

If and a massive IF, we keep the others then I'm ok with that.
Would obviously rather see Lane/Matto leave before Papalii however next young bloke who comes in could be just as good or better on a shitload less...in saying all that Papalii was excellent this year. Would have thought a bit of loyalty by him wouldn't go astray. However if we massively low balled him with these long drawn out protracted negotiations then maybe an internal review is required as some of these negotiations have now dragged out far too long. The players are already with us so its not like we needed to wait til 1 Nov to start negotiating...
Its about time the club delivered some good signing news otherwise we could be looking at a season already lost next year...if we have a number of players joining other clubs in 2023 there will be a point in the season where the WGAF attitude will kick in

Teams have more control in those comps. The main reason those comps can wheel and deal player contracts is simply economical. Players in those comps are very well compensated for the risk that the LA Lakers might trade you off to Bumf**k Idaho
