I get the impression we outsmarted ourselves by lowballing players and then genuinely getting caught off guard by clubs coming in and swooping in and stealing our players from right in front of our noses. I listened to a podcast a few months ago and Bernie was very confident in saying we will keep whenever we want to keep. Do you really think the club expected to lose Papali’i, Niukore and Mahoney?

They would've expected to lose some of them. They had no control over which ones.

You don't know how much they're getting paid. Whatever the media reports is intended to cause maximum drama. Don't buy into it.

I think Mahoney (or "bag of meat in the 9 jersey" as he is now known) signing for 4 years is not a great sign of confidence from him in himself as a player. He knows with the concussions and brittle body he could be a liability soon enough.
24-29 should be an NRL players prime. If he was confident in his future he would have maybe taken a 1 year increase with more money. I think you want to be signing your big long last contract at about 26.

Well we still have Mahoney (on unders since we're not extending him) for 2022. His cap space will be spent on other players (some of them also on unders because Arthur's is good at getting players to overperform). This is how we stay strong.

Pou, you keep wanting to have your cake and eat it too. We’re either a strong club with a lot of players on unders who we’ll lose because of our success or we don’t have many great players and should be able to keep this merely above average side together. You can’t have it both ways.

Whilst I am not slitting my wrists yet, I do have concerns.

1. We extended BA supposedly to help keep the core playing group together
2. We simply cannot compete with those clubs that have access to 3rd party agreements. It is obvious that there is only lip service played to being at arm's length. Our Board members don't need more footy IQ, they need better contacts who are willing to cough up.

That would be cheating.

I def think we're in trouble as a club. I expect a nice explanatory email/press release from O Neill or Sarantinos. I'd be writing a nice angry email to the club if that doesn't happen.

Even if there was obvious good talent to spend it on we would be out bid anyway. We don't offer overs for established talent, so others will do and that will be that.

Our only hope is to get under valued talent or young still to developed talent. Also lets just hope and pray that one of the 3 hookers we have recently signed really steps up and surprises the sh*t out of us and plays the house down over the next 12 months.

We are not the Roosters that can wine and dine the likes of B. Smith for example and have Robinson and Uncle Nick regale him and then maybe sign him for unders.

You can't expect players to stay if we're offering 20% less, even if it is only the difference between minimum wage and $20k more.

I have no problem with him not accepting the 15% less we offered him, if reports on the numbers are accurate. I have other reasons to be disappointed in him and that disappointment is coming through a bit in my attitude this afternoon.

Coaches are interchangeable mate. Case in point Ricky Stuart. With zero experience he won a premiership and with 11 years under his belt he won a spoon. The difference? Which club he was at.

What will be the clubs official statement on this, will O’Neil finally be heard , for a HOF he has been able to escape the media.

PVL and Abdo opened a can of worms with this Nov 1 , 18 months before contract expiry idea. Confirms that they don’t understand the supporters attitude, again NRL HQ miss the target, only concerning themselves with player agents and RLPA.

I do agree its ridiculous this contract rubbish 18 months beforehand. But the NRL would be lapping this up keeps the game in the papers everyday and publicity. NRL is still on the back page they wouldnt be if you cant sign 18 months beforehand.

Though god help round 1 next year when the ground announcer reads out our team st commbank just before they run out on the big screen and he gets to the forwards names there probably will be more boos then cheers i won't be booing but won't be cheering either
