interesting that Hodgson/Simonsson have been announced, but Rein hasn’t.

TCT haven’t made any mention of Rein at training (not that means he isn’t there)…..and he isn’t in any training photos…

So has he signed? Or even training?
Yes he has and yes he is at training.

Pretty sure they did mention him in one of their reports

If they get the other two approved through the NRL, they will prob announce Rein, Ogden and Scott at the same time. IIRC we did something similar last year.

How many 200 game players do the Panthers have? I can’t imagine it would be too many.

And would there leadership group of say;
Cleary, JFH, Yeo, Korisau, Leota and Luai have that much more NRL experience than;
Gutho, Moses, RCG, Paulo, N Brown and Matterson?
They bought plenty of veterans while developing that squad. We can't just jump to the have-a-squad-full-of-24-year-old-stars stage without going through the intermediate stages. We are more like Penrith in about 2014 than Penrith 2021. We can follow their process but we can't just pretend we're the finished product. If anything we're more like the Sharks' build up to 2016.

$400k seems reasonable. Still a risk for a player his age but good value if he plays well for 20+ games a year.
I doubt Hodgson is coming to us for anything other than a starting role do I agree he’d be on an above average amount. Assuming you are correct I don’t think anything around 400k is a low risk signing at all especially when their form has been questionable. Paulo on the other hand has been in great form, is a current origin player and would only be 32 by the time his contract finishes if he were to re-sign for 3 years so I don’t know why you would think he would be too much money.

High risk due to previous injuries and age. His for if fit is fine.

Plenty, but only two in the spine. Rein will help there.

Penrith spine are how old?
Anyhows as I said. Hodgson if plays at 70% of his best form will be great value at 400k. That would be Mahoney level. At his peak he is one of the best hookers I have seen play and was as good as Cam Smith imo. He played at elite level for about 3 seasons. A level I don't think any current hooker in the NRL will ever reach. He was top shelf. Its just age. Father time catches up with everyone and can happen fast.

I reckon Hodgson is a pretty decent option to replace Mahoney in 2023 (not saying he is better then Mahoney that’s another discussion), and of course it’s a risk with his age especially for 2024…however it also depends on his contract value ..

anyhow regarding his age, sport science is now allowing players to push into their 30’s…and no longer have to retire at 30 like 20 years ago…

and also Hodgson has only played 130 or so games in the NRL, his early years were in a easier less physical comp..

Interestingly quite a few (especially the media), thought the Sharks signing Finucane on a 4 year deal until he was 35 was a brilliant signing……and he was only managed more than 19 games once in the last 4 years….

Yet Hodgson on a 2 year deal until his 35 is some how not so good…..

This is my take. He is half the time being slightly sarcastic but also speaking some truth. At sametime he is entitled to his opinion so I do not understand people on here having a go at each other for what they post. It is there choice and I like differing opinions and personalities. I enjoy your emotional flip flopping also. And Pous statically bullshit. @TheRam posts are the ones I look forward to most thou. Brilliantly written and make most sense. Gee if he didn't have such an important role already he would make a great head of football for our club.
Premierships would roll in.

But back to the point no need to get personal towards others on here . Even thou I do with @Gronk it is still banter and I would still be happy to help him with any electrical questions etc.....

Anyhows that is my thoughts. Now you just be ready for when I have a spare 5k to throw into cryptocurrency cause your balls will be on the line.

Never a more truer and insightful post has there ever been written and that is why I too look most forward to your post Hindy and also may I say that that is why we are the "A" team on this forum while most of the noise makers on here don't even have a team to piss on.

Let's focus on 2022 season. The Eels have a squad as good as any in the competition. The new signings will add further to the strength..that is, in my opinion.
Worry about 2023 and beyond when it arrives. Lots of ball to be kicked before then.
I have a real good feeling about the coming season, especially as how the team completed in 2021 final series.

“The Eels have reportedly set their sights on veteran forward Tariq Sims as the club attempts to fill the holes left by outgoing forwards Marata Niukore, Isaiah Papali’i and Ray Stone.

Niukore, Papali’i and Stone have inked deals with the Warriors, Tigers and Dolphins respectively for 2023 and beyond.

Tigers confirm Koroisau signing | 00:31
And now the Eels are set to hit the market to find replacements with The Daily Telegraphreporting Sims a serious contender.

Sims’ Dragons deal expires at the end of 2022 and club has already told him they can’t offer him a new deal beyond his current one.

There’s been no shortage of interest in the 31-year-old. He’s previously been linked to the Tigers, Roosters, Storm, Cowboys, Broncos, Rabbitohs and Panthers, as well as some Super League clubs.

But now the Eels have entered the conversation and have “genuine interest” in the New South Wales representative, according to the Telegraph.

Sims is understood to be earning close to $600,000 but will likely accept a pay cut at this late stage in his career.

As for the Eels, given Reed Mahoney is departing at the end of 2022, on top of Niukore, Papali’i and Stone, the club wouldn’t have to cull any players to make room in their cap to accommodate Sims.”

Well, going back a fair while, this is how the news that Parra was signing Steve Edge as greeted by some.

Should adopt a wait and see on this signing, if Hands and others are good enough, we have experience to guide them.

At the time we didn't have a decent rake who could win the scrum count. It had cost us big time in the previous few seasons. We kept losing the scrum possession most weeks and it was very difficult to beat the top sides with a 30ish-40ish% scrum deficient. It was evident that we needed to at least be able to get 50% of the scrum wins if we were to win a title. Hell we had come so close on numerous occasions so little possession but unfortunately couldn't get the bickies.

Then we got Edge and the rest is history. Today though, we are replacing one of the best dummy halves coming into his peak years with a veteran on his last legs that may or may not be up to it. Massive difference in situations. Time and luck will be the judge on this one. Odds are that he will have health issues and not play as well as we would like, but you never know, we might just get really lucky. Fingers crossed.

Penrith had 3 guys 27 or older
Yeo,Capewell both 27 and Api who is 29. Majority are under 25.

It is a young man's game.
So let’s sign a bunch of people from the old peoples home, V’Landys ball is all about speed so let’s do the opposite.
