What's there to gain with Rankin. He is bog average.
Arthur's son may never play NRL for long term. But at 18 he has potential. Give him atleast 2yrs. Maybe judge him in the 2024 season. The next 2 are pointless. Too young
He isn’t top 30, doesn’t have an NRL contract.

He is there to help the NSW cup side / provide leadership.

It’s good to promote juniors early but they still need guidance, Rankin is perfect for that role in NSW cup.

Plus provides coverage if we have an injury crisis

You got a source for that? I find it difficult to believe that he was on the NRL minimum salary ($115,000 ignoring the players at bottom of roster)

According to this an several other sources he signed for us for $150,000 p.a.:

I was going off $150,000 as well. While you can technically get paid less than that it doesn’t change the point I was trying to make. He was on a very small contract relative to what he is worth.
So if there was no way to know how good he would be how would we have come to an agreement on his value? This is why both parties should've waited.

From the point of view of an NRL club constrained by a salary cap there is zero risk in not (re-)signing a player. All of the risk lies in locking the club into a financial obligation to a player who might not provide value. It's only from the emotional perspective of the fan (and the journalist) that not signing/retaining somebody is an absolute negative outcome.
Foresight is far more valuable than hindsight.

It was pretty good foresight to get Papalii for 4/5 of f**k all for 2 years wouldn't you think?

His form and skill far exceeded Baby Arthur, Will Smith and Jay Field. I was disappointed he didnt get a run in the Ones but he obviously has been retained for the reasons you offer. A goal kicker to boot. Im looking forward to getting to Commbank early next year to watch him ply his trade.

He's going to break out this year adding that 5-10kg on his frame is going to do wonders to his game. How many times did we see him poke his head through the line and with the speed he has he's going to be a real hand full. He's my prediction for our leading try scorer next year especially if he plays on the left. I'm really liking the direction we're going with our outside backs were fielding young, quick and talented backs that can defend well, that are on lower contracts.

Whoops. I meant in regards to him getting a few games in NRL over Jake this year. Plenty wanted him instead. But there was nothing to gain from this.
Apologies

They want Sivo gone imo. The fact Haze has 4 more years now suggests they're rate him. Simmonson 3yrs suggests the same.
Wouldn't be suprised if Sivo ends up at the Dolphins.
