Ky Rodwell close to being re signed

Eels secure promising forward

The Eels have lost plenty of their grunt over the summer - but are about to lock down one of their promising middle forwards.

Ky Rodwell, a 22-year-old former Australian Schoolboy and NSW Junior Origin player, is close to extending his deal with the club.

Rodwell, a ball playing prop from the NSW south coast, played one top grade game for the club last season and didn't look out of place.

"We are currently looking to upgrade and extend Ky as he is off contract at the end of this year," Rodwell's manager Wade Rushton told Wide World of Sports.

"He has had a good off season and we are hopeful he will start the season in the top 17."

Does it matter? He is paid to do what needs to be done, not what make you and other onlookers happy.
My comment was in regards to Gus most likely being full of shit again.

You can take his comments with a grain of salt when it comes to players at his clubs with contracts.

Fair enough. But then again so are most coaches and or recruiters. It's just that none have the high profile or media presence of Gus. Not many do that are actually movers and or shakers within the game. If they did we would all see how full of shit they were too when performing their job versus what they actually said publically.

Be amazed if he started in top 17 but I agree he didn’t look out of place in his one game vs the eventual premiers. Hopefully more than adequate replacement for Oregon

I'd say he is more of a replacement for Nathan Brown - similar builds, similar motors.

Maybe have Brown start, and have Rodwell give him a break.

Better footwork and will break the line. But his defense looked a bit shaky at times. Slipped off a few tackles.

It is a bit sad we lost
Marata,Stone,Kafusi,Papali,Mahoney. A strong young core. Everyone is replaceable but we have 5 players who will be a big part of 2022 already signed elsewhere which leaves a bit of a salty taste. You want them to play well but not be devastating.

Bar Hodgson I wonder if we have anyone on our radar for 2023. We've been quiet.

On the flip side we have replaced Mahoney spot.
Stone = Rodwell

Kafusi -
Marata-
Papali-

It is possible Greig,Hollis,Morretti break out this year. And if so we may not even need to look elswhere.
Let's hope NSW CUP plays a full season. A shame so many of these guys lost game time. But we need to be smart. There is going to be a heap of talent just pop up from nowhere. Guys who where 19 and close to NRL debuts will be 21. If we have cap money we can snitch these guys.
Sides like the Dogs,Tigers etc probably are going to miss out on these opportunities

Still only 18 merkins in the 2023 squad including our top 12 or 13 and a couple of certain benchies. We've got plenty of money and time up our sleeve.
2023
Utility: Russell (21), Tuipulotu (21)^
Fullback: Gutherson
W/C: Blake (29), Dunster, Penisini (21), Simonsson, Sivo (30)*
Half: Arthur (21), D.Brown (23)*, Moses
Hooker: Hodgson
Edge forward: Cartwright (29), Lane (29)
Middle: N.Brown (30), Campbell-Gillard, Hollis (22), Makatoa (30), Paulo
