He's only played one game this year and that was off the bench as a cover for backs, so you guys are sledging an 18yo (now 19) backup half who played 7 games last year due to injuries of both Brown then Moses and one this year because Russell got hurt. If this was Dantoray Lui , Josh Chappell or Ethan Sanders you'd by cutting him some slack because he's only young.

Let's admit there's an "i just don't like the coach" agenda here so we can all move on.

Well no. People aren't expecting him to play like Thurston. What would be good is if he came on and did not force a re-shuffle and us having to move one of the competition's form halves out of position because he only knows how to play in the halves (at a fairly basic basic level IMO).

lets be honest here gronk. He’s only been selected because he’s the coaches son. He’s shown absolutely nothing and looks so far off the pace it’s not funny. He’s too robotic and too slow to ever be a threat. If he had another surname he’d be scrutinized just as much if he wasn’t ready or lacked talent. He shouldn’t be anywhere near the first grade team, regardless of how hard he trained.

I won't admit to any agenda. I don't give a f**k what his surname is or who his Dad is. If any of those other blokes you mentioned were brought in to a game and it meant shifting our in form 6 to the centres, as well as taking on a lead role in the kicking game and then produced the kicks JA did I'd be just as critical. If Brown or Moses were to go down injured, I'd live with JA playing in the halves despite all of his limitations. With no other options, we'd just have to get on with it and hope he delivers something better than he has so far or starts improving at least.

I'm no BA fangirl but nor do I deathride the bloke. If I perceive poor decisions I'll call them out - isn't that one of the reasons we have a forum? Likewise, if JA carved up next time he plays in the halves I'll applaud and be grateful for the improvement.

JA absolutely deserves to be scrutinised as much as any other player and to have his weaknesses called out, but to claim his selection was solely and only because of his surname is to call into question the integrity of not only BA, but the whole coaching staff.

Not sure that we have enough evidence to do that.

would you of selected him to play?

and if so, would you shift your starting half to accommodate him in the team. He doesn’t fit the dynamics of the team, and the coach had to come up with a plan to carry him on the bench. That meant Dylan would be shifted to the centres. Unfortunately for both Arthur’s, brown has been in career best form. Shifting him now to accommodate his son will raise many questions.

It took him to be around 27 to become really good but his defence was still shit. JA has another 7 years or so to become elite (if it happens) and his defence is already better.

With HIA s now so common I think it's wise to carry a guy who can cover 1-7 in the squad. The more I think of it the more I like the idea of Perham perhaps being used.
Marata actualy makes a huge difference to the squad however as he can fill in centre.
Remember rnd 1 Marata was missing along with N.Brown
In rnd 2 JA didn't come on.

It will be good for JA to be back in NSW cup and I would like to see him have two full seasons there before we see him again. As I mentioned earlier he may be the perfect kid to have in your top 30 for 12yrs and always be a back up learning the system.

I am not on the coaching staff at the club, so I cannot say whether I would have selected him or not.

However, IF I was on the coaching staff and IF there was a player who was a young half, with 7 games NRL experience, who had been one of the better performers throughout the off-season, AND I had only a 30 year old journeyman available, AND I wanted or felt I needed to have a half on the bench, then MAYBE I would have picked him, yep.

We should go balls deep for Milford imo. Would be great cover for halves and fullback and a dynamo off the bench. The perfect utility.

i appreciate the response but wanted to hear your opinion. Would you of selected him round one?

I’m assuming the journeyman you refer to is rankin? Or is it Bryce? Matto could of covered halves if need be for round one. Bryce could of come onto the bench as a forward.

I think we are strongest with Marata being the backup for the backs.

We have soo many quality backrowers and 2 spots and little game time unless BA goes and rotates the team. RCG played big minutes against the titans, but it probably did not affect him too much as he was rested alot against the drags.

Paps, Marata, Lane, Matto can all interchange positions. Then you have Bryce as well.

I do like Perham as 14 . Not sure what his defense is like in the middle. He might be the speed and footwork we need around the rucks. Could be our next PJ.

Otherwise, Rein needs more game time . We might need to resign him for next year as well to cover for Hodgo.

Best answer is I don't know what i would have done, as i dont/didnt have all the information available that the coaching staff had.

yeah argue whether JA should be in the top 17, but to suggest Drown is moved to centre to accommodate JA is entirely incorrect and supported by evidence….

Round 1, injured forced the move..
Round 2, no injuries, Drown remains in the halves, JA not used…..

We won the game. That's the funny part. While the week after he was not used and we lost.

Anyhows I think 2yrs in NSW cup. Let his body develop first. To lanky.

Josh, I’m sure BA has already said that Dylan had trained in the centres in the offseason. I assume when he trained in the centers JA was training in the halves. Isn’t that enough evidence?

Training there, is different to making changes to the NRL side to accommodate JA getting game time….

Anyhow if what you reckon is correct, then surely you must agree its a masterstroke by BA, putting a rocket up Drown!!!! The threat of playing centre and being replaced by JA during the game now has him in career best form……..well done BA!!
