Especially if he is wanting over 1m a season, as good as he is he’s not worth that.
Some journo said last week that Moses knocked back $1m from the Broncos last time and signed with us (reportedly for $900k). So if true, he’s not willing to move away or play for a spooner for 10% or so. Or wasn’t then anyway.

Chin Boy signed until 2056 for $1m a year linked to cap increases, so for mine that sets a reasonable benchmark on what a top half is worth.

Moses may get offered more than that by shit clubs who don’t have a half, nothwithstanding what he is *worth*. Hopefully we re-sign him, as I reckon his best is in front of him.

Like any team, we can't afford to lose a spine player for the finals. It happened last year with Reed and we saw how that turned out.

I watched the 86 GF on tv. It was great being at high school when the Eels were winning premierships.
Well if we had lussick last year in the finals, we might have won it.. Who knows. But losing reed and lussick yeah, I agree.

If reed goes down, I think rein could fit in there if he had a few games back to back and listen to the coaches game plan

True, they were good times.

In context we were a Top 4 team from 1975-1979 and lost two GFs along the way. 1980 was a shit year before our premiership streak with 1981, 82, 83 and 86. Then we started to slide. We failed to make the semis then until 1997. 😲

It ^^^^^ essentially mapped emergence of our GOATS, the GOATS in their prime and then the inevitable retirement of our GOATS.

Have I stressed how important GOATS are ? I think so.

He either is going for a longer contract or wants more money (I know - stating the obvious) otherwise, he wouldn't turn down the player option.

I know Hodgson has his injury concerns, but reckon there is some reasoning behind his signing…..Drown is still learning, and as good as Moses / Gutho (Mahoney) are, gee at times they can make some bad decisions….Hodgson adds plenty in that department, is a smart, experienced operated. It’s something our squad has lacked for a while…..he could take a lot of pressure/decision making off the spine…..

veterans may slow down but still have there “smarts”….

Our first try on Friday night came from Mahoney going the wrong way on the 4th. He stands up, looks around, then goes the short side to Paulo who is flat footed.

I agree, I’d love for him to stay but if he decides to chase the cash we might have to let him go. Dylan Brown is a generational talent and I think needs to be our main priority.

Sounds like a real utility, gee it would be nice to have another one capable of playing in the halves in the top 30…………

He will be eligible I think come rnd 13. I don't think him or Rodwell would of been ready anyhows.
The idea of 10mins a game for guys who are developing is not smart. Game time, fitness is more important. Atleast we have a few solid options come the back half of the season.
After rnd 12 our road trip to Canberra we also will only leave Sydney one more time for the rest of the season. That's a fairly good advantage.
30 mins travel to a game.

It was a joke to Bones on Bones not being the same again and a spot being available and...oh you know what? Don't worry, it obviously wasn't very funny if I need to explain.

Ignore
I got the joke and meaning, no need for explanation. Both having a laugh about BoB.

Well he has won premierships as coach and also set the conditions for coaches who came afterward to win. The fact he is a multiple premiership winning coach means he deserves the benefit of the doubt. He knows what it takes to win.
I think it was only at Roosters where he has 'assisted' a coach win a premiership when they had a fantastic roster. Every other club he was at they eventually parted company without any marked improvement in the NRL team.

I showed you Cleary was shithouse in his first four years at the Panthers, and no better at the Tigers. The only reason to bring him back was to re-sign his son on the cheap. They are experiencing their current success because of the squad they have, which wasn’t built by Cleary.
Gus kept interfering with Cleary and the roster, giving players away that Cleary wanted, Koroisau being the prime example, being offered to Manly when Cleary stated he wanted him. Again when Cleary resigned by Panthers Gus interferred and only after he was sacked was Cleary given free air and the results dramatically improved.

As far a W-T go their roster was extremely poor and Cleary tried to improve it with overpaid players which was a poor option, and their roster is still poor but improving.

Gus likes blowing his horn and who improved their juniors is open to speculation. Was it him only, which he would like everyone to believe, or a combination of the coach, their assistants and Gus? Who knows? Now you know the real reasons tell me Cleary is a poor coach you merkin.

I’m thinking from the perspective of only being able to keep him or Drown. We’d have to replace Moses with someone cheaper and bank on Drown becoming the next Michael Morgan, only without the career ending injury.

But it’s possible that us clearing the decks after 2022 means we are leaving space under the cap for the most expensive halves pairing in the NRL.
Also need to resign Matterson, has been fantastic for us and his injection really gives us a left when the starters go off.
