$625K a year for Matto ?

hmmm..................not sure I would have gone that high based on his concussion history and the fact that his form is only good around contract time.

In saying that I really don't want him to leave, he is an integral part of our team right now and with Ice and Niokore leaving next year we really do need him.

I'm not sure where that line of thought comes from...

He averaged more tackles per game in 2020, and 2021, than he does in 2022.

His offloads, and tackle breaks, per game, have been relatively consistent.

He created more linebreaks for teammates in 2020, and 2021, than he has in 2022.

He's been playing at a consistently good level for years.

Is that deflection? Funny that you used to throw that out so often.
The board set policy and direction. Serious question; do think that anyone from the board keeps tabs on the Salary Cap ? Do you think that anyone from the board are on the recruitment and retention committee?

The Eels have an upcoming recruitment and retention committee meeting, at which a two-year extension for Moses, as well as the club's pursuit of Staggs, is high on the agenda.

"What I do know is that the club is desperate to keep him and Mitchell wants to stay," coach Brad Arthur said on Friday.

"We want him at the club, he wants to be at the club he's worked hard to help us turn things around and he's a big part of what we want to do moving forward.
"I'm not too sure around the money situation part of it. And I'm sure there's plenty of people that are interested in Mitchell.

Because Matterson:

- is a great defender
- has versatility
- has more big match experience

Papali'i is a gun - with the ball in his hands.

His defence is embarrassing, at times...
Conversely you could argue Papali’i has demonstrated far more consistency since he’s been at the club. He never goes missing and is always one of our hardest workers. He’s also younger so less likely to drop off him form if offered a long term contract. In saying that I hope Matterson stays because motivated Ryan Matterson is one of the best backrowers in the game.

I know you're a fan and yeh, his defense on the edge is one of his strengths as he reads the play well, but he seems to like the middle better.

I like him under the kick on the edge too. We need edge players, not middle players.

Do you think he is worth $625K

I don't get this "he goes missing" line - he's been nothing if not consistent.

Blah blah blah. The board have f**k all to do with player recruitment and we all know it. They hire the people who do that.

Well they said during the week that Jack Bird re-signed with STG for $550k, so is Matto worth $75k more ? Hell yeah.

I think he's a middle, who can play edge well.

We are better with him handling the ball as much as he can.

$625,000 is a lot of cash, but:

- he's an Origin player
- he's a Premiership winner
- he can play in the middle, on the edge, and even in the centres, and at 5/8

I'm a huge fan, but I wouldn't offer more than that, tbh.

All I'm saying is he's consistently played at a good level.

I think most would think $2.5 over four years is too much. I wonder if there is an increase in payment each year?

It would be interesting if Papa had a coaching clause, as I don't think Madge will be there next year. I don't think it would be true though.

Yeah 625 may seem a little excessive, but having already lost two backrowers, I dare say the club may be getting a little desperate to get him to stay.

So there isn’t a Recruitment and Retention Committee? 😳

What does the football club CEO do ? 😳
Did I say that? Is that committee made up entirely of board members? Do we not have a head of football? Who would have more to do with decisions about recruitment, the head of football or the board?
